A giant shot a guy off the top of a massive wall with a giant arrow. I mean even if you think "I PREFER CHARACTER EPISODES TO BATTLE SCENES" surely you thought that was cool. It was a giant arrow!
It was sad that Grenn and Pyp died. I think it made sense to raise the dramatic stakes (and it's not like they've done much in the books since then.) I thought Ser Alliser would die too but I guess he's still alive just badly injured.
I didn't expect the episode to end at the point it did, but I guess saying anything else is a spoiler. It was a bit weird that Mance wasn't in it at all.
It depends who you count as the main characters, but I'd say Tyrion, Dany, Jon, Arya, Sansa, Cersei, Theon, Bran, Jorah, Littlefinger, Jaime (though his role expanded over time) have all been "main" characters from the start probably.
But he does have a habit of killing off the most interesting and well acted characters.
Loved this episode. The idea of a whole show focussing on the wall with sappy Sam and miserable Jon wouldn't have been at the top of my wish list, but it was really good. Giants riding mammoths. What's not to love.
