Gatsby

Mirah

I love you
Not bad.
Anyone else see it?
Actually it was wierd and boring at parts, most of them, but I enjoyed the presentation.

I just have no desire. I kow Leo is OMG SO BRILLIANT AND HOLY SHIT and all, but I don't see it half the time. And Jay-Z and hip-hop and modern pop is in there too? I'd be looking at my watch (if I wore a watch) waiting for Tobey to come back on screen.

It worked for Moulin Rouge & Romeo & Juliet. It doesn't work for every story.

I'm sitting here in the book store at the mall. The movie starts in 45 minutes. Do I stay or do I go now?

I've already seen everything at the theater that I'm remotely interested in seeing. So, saw Gatsby. The only one showing when I went was in 3D. Don't know why it was in 3D.

I liked this movie. It was beautiful to look at and the music was good. Leonardo DiCaprio is very good and he has become quite a handsome man. I like a movie with more story than special effects every now and then.

The problem with this story is it is very dated. The current state of society is too jaded to muster the righteous indignation this story requires.

Prohibition, gangsters and racism work really well in Boardwalk Empire but this version of Gatsby looks superficial and insipid. I've only seen Moulin Rouge and part of Romeo + Juliet but I think Baz Luhrman tends toward the shrill and frantic. Has he improved since the early 2000s?

I couldn't make it through the modernized version of Romeo & Juliet even though Leonardo is in it. However, I loved Moulin Rouge. Considering the era and the popular use of absinthe at that time, the disjointed feeling seemed appropriate. I loved the music and thought the casting was excellent.

You don't think this version of Gatsby was right on about the crowd it was making comment on?

" 'The Great Gatsby' was well ... GREAT!"

Didn't like the book. Probably won't like the movie.

Jay Z isn't Bowie and he's not Thom Yorke. He's a producer, not a musician. I dislike his hip-hop, mainly because his beats SUCK BALLS. You know a good hip-hop artist who has gotten into film scoring and soundtracks? The Rza from Wu-Tang. Kill Bill 2, and The Man With the Iron Fists. The latter wasn't that great of a movie (too much story, not enough time), but the music was spot on.

Blah, pretentious movie from a pretentious book, will only be enjoyed by costume designers and fans of Leo (AKA the lonely cat ladies).

You thought I was gonna say gays, didn't you?
