I borrowed a copy from a 'friend', but inorder to play it you have to register it online with a unique code, and the code for this copy has been used already.

You have to activate it with Steam over the internet as well. If you're having trouble getting an install code then you may run into more problems cracking Steam.

You need an app called ppatcher to do that.

Half Life 2 is one of, if not the most notorious games to crack ever. Steam iis a nightmare to deal with but it was possible. Unfortunatley you're only just now deciding to play it, long after the ppatcher scene has died out (it was able to crack Steam). I had a look for you and it doesn't look too great on finding a hack to bypass a retail version of the game.


You could always download an already hacked version of HL2 from Demonoid which totally bypasses Steam to beging with but I'm not sure how much luckyou'll have with that copy.

If it were any other game it would be a piece of piss to get working.

Dont worry too much, I did buy this, and after playing once, I didnt bother playing again.
