Heavy Metal Magazine

Unluckiest Charm in the Box
One thing I have ALWAYS been enchanted by was the world of Heavy Metal. I have been a follower for years and simply LOVE almost everything there is to love about these magazines. Is there anyone else here that iss obsessed with them as I am?

I knew them as Metal Hurlant when they first came out in French back in the seventies. I still have the first 40 French editions, that the Lampoon "reprinted" in bits and pieces as Metal.

The magazine essentially is shit. Is Kevin Eastman still publishing it?

He's a fucking burnout. I remember when he was selling Turtles at conventions, when they were b&w before the Fall. He and Laird were just a couple of hopefuls. Eastman had good cartoon chops, but the books weren't that popular.

But I remember when that wave hit. What happened to Eastman is sickening.

Yah, getting married to a Penthouse Pet and making scads of money off of an established publication is a horrible fate.

Actually, I was wondering what happened to Laird.

I had dinner with him and his wife a couple of months ago. Still lives in the same house in Amherst. It hasn't changed him much, except he has every year and every model of every Harley Davidson ever made :D Yes, he is a personal friend (since way before he was ever famous)

With Xeric Foundation a complete success, he's more than given back what he's put in.

And you've got to be shitting me about Julie. I've met her. She's a fucking fake silicone bitch. Hollow Girl.

I guess that's your taste. And Heavy Metal has been operating in bankruptcy for more than five years now, so then there's that. :D And if you knew ANYTHING about Tundra, you'd know successful publishing just isn't and Eastman forte'.

I didn't say I Liked juile, I actually hate her look and how she gets plastered everywhere. (Olivia type stuff)

And I didn't know HM was in bankruptcy. I don't keep up on that.
That's why I'm asking since it's a topic now.

Next time you talk with him, ask him if he still remembers a guy named Dave Garcia that used to do Panda Khan.
I knew him WAYYYYY back. I think he still says Bitchin' a lot.

And what about laird?

I remember Panda Khan. I probably have a bunch of that stuff somewhere.

Laird is happy. Nice family, quiet life. He teaches art and does guest appearances and lectures. He has more money than days forever and although he uses it, it's pretty meaningless to him. It's very cool.

I feel guilty, because I have a soft place in my heart for "Heavy Metal", and it is an artsy/geeky cheap thrill to peruse the latest issue at the newstand, but in some 20 years I have never bought an issue. :(
