You wanted to know what I thought about 'The Swallow'? I'm only on about page 50 and I can tell you already that it is a great book. It would fall into the soft sci fi category, as it focuses on religion and linguistics. I knew it was going to be great from the very first page, which is rare.. usually takes me 15 or 20 pages to really get into a book.

It is so good, that I will see if I can find any other books by Mary Doria Russell.. says in the back that she's writing a sequel to The Sparrow.

I love Tom Robbins.. even though I've only read Skinny Legs and all. Great book, and I will one day read all his stuff.

I've always wanted to read Roger Zelazny, I will put that on my list.

I read Stranger in a Strange Land a long time ago, I love Heinlein. It's probably been long enough to read again. I'm a re-reader, reading a good book over again is like going back home.

Zelazny is a genius. A word-smith. You won't be disappointed.

OK, I'm off to the library tomorrow to check out The Sparrow!

Thanks for your thoughts on it,Cassie!

oh, and re Heinlein:
if you haven't yet read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, do!!
Another of my favourites is The Cat Who Walked Through Walls.
Heinlein's books are written so vividly they draw you right into the worlds of his novels.

I read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress just a few months ago, and The Cat Who Walked Through Walls when I was in high school. Heinlein is great.. don't think I've read The Door Into Summer though. I'll have to check it out.

I'm not supposed to be zipping through The Sparrow because we're gonna be discussing it for the next two months but it is so good I have to force myself not to gobble it up. I have this thing about good books.. I feel compelled to read them as fast as I can.. I think I'm afraid I'll die before I get to the end or something.

I get pretty absorbed in books too - actually, it's a sign that the author did hir/her job - otherwise, we wouldn't even be engaged.
Actually I just dropped a Werewolf book I'd recently taken a Hold out on at the library - it was bloody awful. Didnt care about the protagonists and the guy kept trying to come off as Stephen King with those annoying Mega Mysterio allusions we're all supposed to understand. bah!
