What exactly did the Irish or Scottish discover for themselves? Everything is a part of cultural and technological diffusion. Eastern Asians differ in that regard in that they are very capable of maintaining it.

Japan has the most stable economy. Japanese elders, CEOs of companies, still work after retiring. In Japan it is shameful not to work. Their work ethic is stronger than Canada's, or what the USA's and Germany's work ethic used to be.

A very valid point. Their work ethic is unsurpassed. They took what they learned from the Europeans, and improved upon it. But they did cause lots of problems for the Japanese in their initial contacts.

Japanese pirates also caused a lot of problems for innocent Chinese. Japanese soldiers during WWII experimented on people in ways just as bad (If not worse) as Nazi Germans purportedly did.
