HMS Warrior

Gagh

Constructed 1860. The British Navy's first Ironclad.

Through her rigging can be seen Admiral Horatio Nelson's ship further back in the dockyard, HMS Victory - around 100 years older & much more spectacular. Next to that is the facility that houses the remains of the Kind Henry VIII ship, The Mary Rose.

Snapped today off the Gosport Ferry, and a daily sight since being towed into dock in 1987, and passed every day on the way to and from work.

At Christmas, the rigging has lights in the colour and shape of a Christmas tree.

A typical sight on the way home from work in late September / mid October evenings.

beautiful. what is it about Tall Ships?

It's the rigging. We're spoiled rotten down here. Tall ships coming in and out all the time. The Fesitival of the Sea a few years back was one hell of a sight. Hundreds of tall ships & ships & vessels from over 50 countries all packed into the harbour and around the Solent.

Wish I'd seen that! We drove two hours one year to see a flotilla of Tall Ships passing through the Great Lakes on the way to somewhere; breath-taking. There weren't hundreds of them - More like 40 - but still a fantastic sight.

We should declare war on France just to let some cool ships see action.

well, the Canadian Navy consists of about four ships so it'd be a quick war.
