House apologizes for slavery, 'Jim Crow' injustices

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a resolution apologizing to African-Americans for slavery and the era of Jim Crow.

The nonbinding resolution, which passed on a voice vote, was introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen, a white lawmaker who represents a majority black district in Memphis, Tennessee.

While many states have apologized for slavery, it is first time a branch of the federal government has done so, an aide to Cohen said.

In passing the resolution, the House also acknowledged the "injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery and Jim Crow."

"Jim Crow," or Jim Crow laws, were state and local laws enacted mostly in the Southern and border states of the United States between the 1870s and 1965, when African-Americans were denied the right to vote and other civil liberties and were legally segregated from whites.

The name "Jim Crow" came from a character played by T.D. "Daddy" Rice who portrayed a slave while in blackface during the mid-1800s.

The resolution states that "the vestiges of Jim Crow continue to this day."

"African-Americans continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow -- long after both systems were formally abolished -- through enormous damage and loss, both tangible and intangible, including the loss of human dignity and liberty, the frustration of careers and professional lives, and the long-term loss of income and opportunity," the resolution states.

The House also commited itself to stopping "the occurrence of human rights violations in the future."

The resolution does not address the controversial issue of reparations. Some members of the African-American community have called on lawmakers to give cash payments or other financial benefits to descendents of slaves as compensation for the suffering caused by slavery.

It is not be the first time lawmakers have apologized to an ethnic group for injustices.

In April, the Senate passed a resolution sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, that apologized to Native Americans for "the many instances of violence, maltreatment and neglect."

In 1993 the Senate also passed a resolution apologizing for the "illegal overthrow" of the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1893.

In 1988, Congress passed and President Reagan signed an act apologizing to the 120,000 Japanese-Americans who were held in detention camps during World War II. The 60,000 detainees who were alive at the time each received $20,000 from the government.

Why are these people even in office? The country's falling apart around them and THIS is what they come up with? This is what I mean when I say, Republican, Democrat, doesn't matter. They're ALL a bunch of incompetent fuck sticks.

If I was a white woman in America, I'd be screaming about the injustices our government inflicted on them long before the monkeys arrived on the scene and continued to do long after they let them out of their cages.

If I were a white woman in America, I'd sit in a chair with my hands up my skirt all day.

Gosh, we're sorry for shit we didn't do to people that shit was never done to! Please forgive us for that shit we didn't do, all you people who never had it done to you!

Idiot cunts.

I can see it now if Obama is elected our next President. All the Congressmen and women will crawl right up Obama's ass between the election results and the swearing in ceremony. Hope he picks a good vice-president.

This gives rise to the question. Will there be a campaign for an apology to be given to all people of Arabic or Muslim descent in another couple of decades?

Gitmo = Auschewits!?

Besides, if they talk about reparations to black people, I'll renounce my citizenship and move to fucking Canada. Fuck... who the hell would they pay the reparations to? How could you sit there and find ALL the descendents of former Black slaves in the US? How could you verify it? I can see the Reparation payment line looking much like the unemployment line: full of impoverished self-righteous niggers who don't want to go get a real job and feel like wasting my taxpayer dollars on buying "gangsta" shit from stores like Against All Odds then going home to smoke crack around their seven illegitimate children who're gonna end up just like their deadbeat parents. I have more sympathy for the Latin American movement in the US because at least the wetbacks sit around Home Depot or your local hardware store looking for work to do. They're not at the unemployment office claiming that the "White Oppressor" fired them for smoking crack on the job.

As far as I'm concerned, the Jim Crow laws can be reinstated on the premise that all people with an IQ around room temperature be segregated and/or euthanized. That'd eliminate a good third of this country's dead weight. You'd see the American economy hit record heights and our standard of living would shoot up another 150%.

So, fuck the self-righteous and incredibly racist niggers of this country and fuck that senator for being so goddamned spinelss as to suck nigger cock for votes.

And, for those of you who think my use of the word 'nigger' is inappropriate, blow me. I use it to describe any person (white, black, yellow, or tan) who wishes to live the "gangsta" lifestyle that rappers like 50 Cent and his ilk seem to propagate. Thuggish neanderthals is all they amount to. They're a detriment to the people of the United States and should be eliminated from the face of the earth. It's because of people like them that I will walk with a limp for the next few years.

*kicks away the soapbox and limps home*

Different President, different group of people, but it'll be 2000/2004 all over again.
