How afar away could Vader choke someone?

I mean in ESB we see him get that guy on the viewer and foce choke him without even being there, I dont know if he was on the same ship, or another on the fleet, but it made me wonder...

Can Vader choke anyone over a video link if he connects to them?

It would make things a lot easier.

Vader's secretary, "Hello is that Admiral Ackbar?"
Ackbar "Yes, whos calling please?"
Vader reaches out glove.
