How many people here grew up Rich?

Unluckiest Charm in the Box
Right now I'm pretty O.K. (Not Rich, but about the average middle class). Things wasn't always that way though. When I grew up, times were hard. We were dead dog poor. How poor were we? Dude..

We were so poor….
We had to put our groceries on layaway

We were so poor
Oh Halloween, kids would ring our doorbell.. and hand US candy

We were so poor….
Instead of us going outside to feed our pets, our pets had to come inside to feed us

We were so poor…
The meals we had for Christmas dinner, was leftovers from last Christmas

We were so poor
We were forced to live in a fire-poof house (strike one match and the house went “poof”)

We were so poor
We had to charge the rats and roaches rent.

We were so poor
We washed and stacked paper plates

We were so poor
When we went on picnics, the ants would bring us food

We were so poor
You could walk through our front door, and fall out the back

We were so poor
For television, we used a cardboard box with pictures taped inside that were drawn with crayola crayons

We were so poor
We were forced to buy our car from Barbie, (then later had it repossessed)

We were so poor
Hobo's would come to us on the streets and hand US money

We were so poor
The welfare office named a building after us

Man times were hard back then.

My parents were and still are probably upper middle class to lower upper class. I spend money like its going out of style, so I've long ago gone through all of my savings from my years working at big jobs, and right now I'm just riding off of a nest egg from my maternal grandparents and ths stuff my parents buy me.

I grew up comfortably middle classed in the burbs but once I got married, we struggled mightily. Nothing like starting a family in the midst of the Reagan recessions in a state that got hit like a brick with job losses. It was rough, no if's ands or but's about it. I feel like we're watching a rewind of those years. I hear the economy's doing so well (and in some places it is) in others, it stinks on ice. The unemployment rate is likewise bullshit. Lot's of people not counted because they ran out of unemployment months ago or having taken some halfassed job (or two) to make up for the decent job some worker in China, Mexico or India is doing.
