...were these people allowed to adopt eleven special needs kids?!

NORWALK, Ohio (AP) -- A couple charged with abuse for forcing some of their 11 adopted children to sleep in cages were stripped of custody Monday, six months after a social worker discovered the enclosures.

Juvenile Judge Timothy Cardwell said there was a good chance Michael and Sharen Gravelle would mistreat the children again, citing a history of sexual abuse allegations against the father.

Get a load of where the woman met the man...

Sharen Gravelle testified that she met her husband in 1986 at a potluck dinner for a child sex abuse support group.

And they were allowed to adopt not ONE, but ELEVEN special needs children! :rwmad:

This is why when determining a child's home life, one must really think about where s/he would be better off. The foster care system, at it's best, is only adequate, and very loosely monitored.

Special needs children are just that. The demands to care for them are greater than regular children, thus the stipend given to foster/adoptive parents is greater. Unfortunately, many foster parents are ill equipped for the demands, and end up neglecting and/or abusing the children.

But keeping the goddamned money.

These two should be sent to prison, with their crimes made public to the prison population. Let the inmates take care of them. :rwmad:

Such a shame that we give harsher sentences to people who take pot than child abusers.
