Really Mentalist? Really this was significant to you? I'm an actual AMERICAN and it means nothing. Probably because I'm not a racist and never thought a black man WOULDN'T be president. Even if he is just half black I'm not a sexist either, I'm pretty sure a woman will be president in my lifetime. And probably a gay person, a hispanic, and a blind person too. None of that is or ever was out of the realm of possibility to me.
I have no problem with Obama's race and it absolutely irritates the living shit out of me that it's a big deal. The man could be as purple as a blueberry and all I care about are his politics and his politics stink.
We've already begun with ridiculous political correctness, it's like the goddamn 90's all over again.
Go elect a black Prime Minister and stay out of the American presidency.

And three days in and I'm dissatisfied?! Oh no son, I was dissatisfied the minute I found out Obama was running for president. Not because I didn't want a black man to be president, I'd have voted ten times over for Colon Powell but because the junior senator from Illinois is about as experienced as a 12 year old with a postitute. He did nothing in the senate and will do nothing as the president and obviously this country needs someone that can do SOMETHING. It's out of control and he doesn't have the experience or know how to be a commander.

Bush actually did a great job handling the crap that came down to him after the smoke and mirrors Clinton era. I don't agree that everything he did was done well or even correctly but I don't blame this mess on him. Our economic issues have more to do with shady corporate practices than anything the president could do. It's shameful that anyone running for president (INCLUDING McCain) would run their campaign on the platform that they can somehow bail us out of this mess. No president can do that and all Bush did was put it right back on our backs and Obama has and will do nothing differently.
You absolutely know if you can or can not afford something and when you can't afford a pair of shoes and buy them anyway that's one thing. A home is an incredible financial responsibility and where buy now worry later Americans ever got the idea that it wasn't is beyond me. I blame stupid, irresponsible people and the financiers that enabled them, not the president, that's ridiculous.

Well no, blaming a president for all the Economy's failings or successes is ridiculous, yes. But there is something called accountability for this mess as well.
This is the same guy who defiantly told America that: "The fundamentals of our economy are strong. ... Job creation is strong. Real after-tax wages are on the rise. Inflation is low."
None of that was true then and it's not true now.
You speak of Clinton but growth under Clinton was the third highest for any President since 1960 while Bush is at the bottom and only manages to beat his dad. He reversed the trends of deficit reduction under Clinton. Debt-to-Gross Domestic Product is way above what Clinton left office with. Bush's successes (read: abysmal failures) with job growth are a complete joke compared to Clinton's efforts as well.
OK, so it's fair to say that we have been heading towards difficult times with the economy for decades and Bush can't be held accountable for the collapse itself. But he did nothing of worth to counteract any of this or fight it. Giving tax breaks out and heavily favouring the richest people in America while giving the big Drug, Insurance and Defence sectors everything they wanted at the cost of the tax payer.
He epically missed the housing collapse that was predicted over and over again (despite his claims it was a total surprise!) which is one of the biggest economic fuck-ups in American history.
I'm sorry but you can't pretend like he has been any good at all. The guy was a sucky president and is going down in history as so.
Do I know if Obama can fix this colossal mess? No, I don't know. The time for the glitz and showmanship of the campaign trail is over and he needs to get his head down and work his ass off to start turning these things around. Only time will tell if he is going to be able to manage. But he's been given the chance now and the Neo-Cons did a piss-poor job with the 8 they got so I say let's see where this new approach takes the country.
And can someone please black-up Gordon Brown?
