Superman
Look! Up in the sky!
I know, I know, this sounds like BS.
And I know this will sound like a "friend of a friend" type story.
The difference here is that I don't buy a word of it myself. I just thought it was an interesting rumor. I tried to post it on other comics/genre sites and the thread was deleted before anyone could respond. Such is life.
I have a friend who's been exchanging emails with Superman group editor Matt Idelson. According to my friend, he was asking Matt about DC's plans for Superman's 70th anniversary in 2008 and Matt stated that one of the plans is to change not Superman's infamous outer underwear, but instead the familiar red/yellow/blue color scheme.
Alright, here's where things get crazy. I know, it sounds like BS.
Here we go. According to Idelson, DC is going to change the yellow in Superman's costume to white, thus making Superman's colors red, white, and blue. Idelson also mentioned that DC had tossed this idea around years ago when the second Gulf War began and the Superman books were telling stories of a war in a fictional middle Eastern country. Idelson said the idea was shelved because of the atmosphere of the time but that the current tone of things with the war now might lend to the change. Idelson also said these changes would be permanent.
I remember when that rumor surfaced back then on the old DC Comics message boards.
The fact that it was confirmed as an abandoned plan that's resurfacing is interesting.
What do you guys think? I think it would be a terrible move on DC's part and would be changed back within a year.
Honestly, I think this is either my friend pulling my leg or Idelson pulling his. My friend did slip the info to me early that Superboy was going to die in Infinite Crisis, but that was leaking out in a number of places as the time.
Thoughts?
