HUGE rumor: DC to change Superman's color scheme in 2008

Superman

Look! Up in the sky!
I know, I know, this sounds like BS.

And I know this will sound like a "friend of a friend" type story.

The difference here is that I don't buy a word of it myself. I just thought it was an interesting rumor. I tried to post it on other comics/genre sites and the thread was deleted before anyone could respond. Such is life.

I have a friend who's been exchanging emails with Superman group editor Matt Idelson. According to my friend, he was asking Matt about DC's plans for Superman's 70th anniversary in 2008 and Matt stated that one of the plans is to change not Superman's infamous outer underwear, but instead the familiar red/yellow/blue color scheme.

Alright, here's where things get crazy. I know, it sounds like BS.

Here we go. According to Idelson, DC is going to change the yellow in Superman's costume to white, thus making Superman's colors red, white, and blue. Idelson also mentioned that DC had tossed this idea around years ago when the second Gulf War began and the Superman books were telling stories of a war in a fictional middle Eastern country. Idelson said the idea was shelved because of the atmosphere of the time but that the current tone of things with the war now might lend to the change. Idelson also said these changes would be permanent.

I remember when that rumor surfaced back then on the old DC Comics message boards.

The fact that it was confirmed as an abandoned plan that's resurfacing is interesting.

What do you guys think? I think it would be a terrible move on DC's part and would be changed back within a year.

Honestly, I think this is either my friend pulling my leg or Idelson pulling his. My friend did slip the info to me early that Superboy was going to die in Infinite Crisis, but that was leaking out in a number of places as the time.

Thoughts?

Well, Superman is an American icon, and he's gone through much more radical changes in the past than a bit of colour bleaching in his costume, so why not? You know it will eventually return to normal anyway, because all major comic franchises hit the reset button after a while.

^That last sentence is the nail on the head. I haven't kept up with comics but apparently, Jug-jug lost many of his powerz. Now he's going back to being the same arse.

"Jug-jug?"

Never heard that as a nickname for Superman.

As for losing his powers, he lost them during "Infinite Crisis," but then they came back slowly in one of the best Superman stories in recent times, "Up, Up, and Away" by Geoff Johns and Kurt Busiek.

I highly recommend it. It was everything "Superman Returns" should have been.
