That one fucking file had over 2GB of info in it. It was causing my spyware and antivirus to hang up whenever I ran them.

So I deleted it. Took over 25 min for it to be dumped. It was over half of my space that was used on my hard drive.

So, anyone know what any of that shit did?

No need to worry about it, really...you just deleted your restore points, which tend to build up over time and hog a shitload of disk space. I've never had much use for restore points anyway, since they never seem to work when you need them to and can retain remnants of viral/spyware infections.

Actually, you may want to keep one restore point active, but you can clear the old ones out on a regular basis using Windows' Disk Cleanup utility (Start ---> Programs ---> Accessories ---> System Tools ----> Disk Cleanup). There's an option in there under the "More Options" tab to dump your restore points.

Alternatively, if you don't think you need restore points at all, you can shut the whole thing off via the Control Panel/System/System Restore tab.

^ I did that a month ago, hoping that it would clear that file up. Curiously, whenever I opened it up via the "My computer" page, none of the temp stuff would show up.

Today I woke up and saw that again my antivirus had choked on the file, so I got pissed. Deleted the whole thing manually. I had to use search to find it. It had 55,400 some odd files in it, and it would only let me delete one of them at a time, or else the "search" page would freeze.

So I left-clicked on the start menu, explore, and plugged in the file name. Came right up. Deleted it that way.

Ahhh, right. What OS are you using? ME or XP?

Apparently the only way to stop it from happening again is to completely disable the System Restore thing, then reboot. That should clear them all out and keep them cleared out.

Yeah, I know, its shitty. But every time I do something like an upgrade, it blows up in my face. Plus, this computer is five years old. I'm waiting for it to go BOOM any time now. No point to upgrade to something new, only to have the computer die in six months.
