Its almost like remaking beauty and the beast and not having the guy be a beast...
Oh dear.
Well for the Beauty and Beast remake I read that the experiment/virus he was exposed to causes a slow mutatation so he probably won't be beast-like until the end of Season 1. And he does have a scar/wound on his cheek at least.
I don't know what they're going for on the Muester remake though, I haven't read anything about that. Its got to be better than that awful Muesters Today remake in the 80's/90's.

That was such an utterly, sickeningly cheesy TV show, not even my mother was able to watch through all seasons. And that is a woman who can still give an account of every main plot and twist of Guiding Light and don't get one fucking detail wrong.
