I need help ....from an IP in the UK <3

Remember when he wanked off a male stranger in a public lavatory.

To think a decade or so from then I'd see him on Question Time trying to play the role of some great political sage.

All the while looking rather unkempts, sporting a blazer with a dress shirt unbuttoned beneath it and his chest hair exposed. Perhaps someone should have informed Russell he was featuring on a respectable programme and not preparing for some crass pornographic video shoot.

Russel Bland is causing a fucking shit storm within Harm Reduction and evidence based practice community - a fucking shit storm!!!

Hahaha I secretly hope he gets jumped at his next NA meeting - yeah fuck you Bland - what do you call a man with no legs or arms in a pile of leaves? Russell HAHAHAHAHA

One of the mannnnnnnny conversations happening:

My sympathies go out to my harm reduction friends who started last night with hopes that opinions had changed for the better but who now have broken TVs. I watched an episode of Comic Book Men instead, but read the fallout on FB and Twitter...

*I didn't watch it, but I had friends who did, some even appeared in it. But it seems from the reports of those whose opinions I value that it usual rhetoric continues...

*Here in Australia we have seen a huge number of agencies peremptorily de-funded, and this week the only publication for NSP workers and related Harm Reduction workers was 100% de-funded after 12 years of sterling service, supported by successive governments with unilateral support. And now we hear (TBC) that our loony Right, RC PM is appointing a few new people to the Australian National Council on Drugs - all of them right-wing, religious, died-in-the-wool conservatives. Yet another example of this government doing everything it can to ruin our reputation as leaders in a field, and drag us back to 'just say No' and the 1950s. In increasing despair...

*I watched out or curiosity with no hopes or aspirations for future change...I was there for not disappointed...was nicely surprised to see Philippe though :D

For my friends that do not work in my field: you do know that I believe as much in abstinence as I do in Harm Reduction. Whatever works for you, as long as it works. I'm glad I managed to get the chance to highlight the issue of street/public injecting in Birmingham. I'm glad Russell Brand wants to end the war on drugs. But I'm FUCKING FUMING he still only advocates abstinence. The only Harm Reduction setting he showed in this hour long documentary was a Swiss DCR. And we saw his reaction. Then it was solely abstinence based services, full of "successes". What about the success in giving someone some dignity?. What if Claude, the teacher from the Bern DCR wants to carry on using drugs, 40 years on, for his pain? What's wrong with that? But it was a completely biased programme yet again. I was reassured Mr Brand truly understood the principles of Harm Reduction as he had visited the Berne & Vancouver facilities. "Don't worry Philippe, Russell has changed since his last drugs documentary". But no, here he goes again with the "parking people on methadone" bullshit, highly offensive & dangerous argument. We know Russell, abstinence worked for you. Great. However, that green stuff that keeps those junkies dirty, as you like to call "them", is actually making a healthy, positive outcome in their lives. And this is scientific evidence, of course. And years of it. Why can't you get that in your thick head? Some people say you' re intelligent. I am not one of those people. And my hair is much better than yours.

*Oh bernard.... It is good that i have had the possibilitee to see all the damage to the injection Of street.... It is good that he also wants to legaliser drugs...... But this con has still not included. It is only na for him. 1 - hour programme: 2 minutes the dcr of berne, with not a record too positive, and the rest It is for the programs of abstinence and their success '. Fait chier! Shit!

*The problem is he is just as much a like as the people who he seeks to ridicule... He has his point of view and that is what he believes. He started well going with the police and highlighting the fact that they're scraping the surface and not effecting drug usage or drug supply's, so a new alternative option and approach is needed: good Russell. But then he pushes his personnel view. His black vs the establishments white. But the thing is life isn't black and white... It's greys, it's whites, it's chequered, it's striped, some days it's yellows and other days it's rainbows. In other words one approach isn't what is needed it's what works best for individuals. A system that caters for individuals needs within a bigger system that promotes understanding and care because that's what is needed not punishment but a helping hand in what ever form it takes.

*Russell Brand has NO authority to speak on drugs because all he's done is use, and get clean. Whoopee! All he can really say is what worked for him, he NOT an expert on substance use, and if he was, he wouldn't haven't used in the first place. He has probably undone a lot of good work in the harm reduction field by his biased opinion because there are some stupid people who will listen to him because he is a "celebrity"!!! What a total tonsil he is! Have lost all respect for him now. He needs to sit in my seat before he mouths off x

* Dont fucking trust hippys

*Mr Russell Brand, #EndTheDrugsWar Not oppose #HarmReduction & #DrugConsumptionRooms and #Abstinence as you do!

*I was just watching my second coat of paint drying whilst attempting to drink my own piss. I took my eyes off for a second and I'm now drenched. Oh well, it was warm while it lasted I suppose

*Nicely done, you came over well, I refused to be interviewed for the programme as I feared for how it would be distorted. He didn't use the words harm reduction once, but significantly did attack the Berne safe consumption room as "a well run crack house [...] sick, fucked people", and then as you note resorted to old lies about people being "parked on methadone". Let's not forget that this is the same Russell Brand who a few months ago referred to "hapless (often smelly) junkies" http://www.independent.co.uk/.../russell-brand-launches...
A friend of mine, a street based drug user, remarked to me that it was "exploitative and predictable. What mass society thinks a drug user is and what they look like [...] nobody asked me if i wanted to go to rehab. The answer would be no. I don't feel like a useless, broken person [...] cos I'm not. I understand what I do and why but my opinion wouldn't have fitted the agenda".

*you should've just taken Nigel's NNEF presentation as fact... with all his straw dolls and all; that Russell Brand thinks he's cleverer than he is, and he's a twunt (I'm just paraphrasing what Nigel said of course ) xxx

* Trouble is he's a professional ex drug user not an ex drug user that is professional ( or informed)

*The guy is a hypocrite and worst of all, a celebrity. I was done with him after the way he behaved with The Peoples Voice. Keep up the good work! xx

*He is what he is: a narcissist.

*I quit shortly after realizing these people have no interest in learning anything other than how to confirm their own ideas. I feel its the nature of 'programs' and recovery ideology to simply deny there could ever possibly be any other way than the way which worked for them, or their friend, or their family member.

And if they let go of this belief then they also lose their grip on their own 'recovery' since it is 100% tied to whatever philosophy/program they have subscribed to in order to change themselves, (never contemplating that perhaps they can change themselves and use at the same time) it must be maintained to still work for them - its a sacred golden cow; so they fight any challenge to their golden cow with all they have, even fake it and pretend they understand just to pass the quiz, just to get a job etc Russel Brand is a fuckwit

*I've not watched it yet. I've got it on the sky+. I'm not particularly hopeful

*I'm not going to be watching it on anything that registers as a 'view' but might just acquire it elsewhere at some point to see the bits with friends in

I can remember the last time I felt cheated by false pretences.....luring me into a false sense of security....a few months ago...with dire consequences....& it happened again last night.
I have to stop believing some people really want the best for drug users. They only care about themselves. So yes, I feel cheated again. Thanks Brand, you fucking cunt.

*You were great mate and it's not a reflection on you or your passion. It's just someone who chooses to believe that there is only one way to recover. Again he came across as a spoilt child in places whilst speaking to academics who have more experience in substance misuse than he's been alive. He has no idea about the real reality of misuse you just had to see his face when you showed him some of the places you did to know that. What it's done is reinforced what people think of him already and that you care about making a change more than most. I thought you were brilliant they should have given you more time though. Xx

*You were warned! However huge resect to you for taking the chance. I am afraid I couldn't watch it. The man brings me out in hives! It amazes me that he can't see the politics behind opposition to Harm Reduction. But there you go. Once a narc(issist) always a narc .... Don't let it wind you up. Consider instead that you did the best you could with the opportunity you had and did well by all accounts. And yes your hair is considerably fucking better. Sx

*Stay true to your beliefs. This was just a TV programme about Russell Brand with some info about drugs on the side. Keep doing what you're doing <3

Wow thats very kind of you Jax...please, no pressure, Im sure Russel will try to take his revolution global at some stage hahaha the self serving fucker wont be able to help himself :D

*From one who works in the field and who knows Philippe very well, and for many years as a great friend, I found the documentary absolutely appalling. This child like celebrity idiot cannot be classed as the voice of reason in an environment that is forever changing. In the last 15 years of working in this field, i can count the number of people on my left hand who have remained abstinent from abstinence based (recovery) models, the like of which is about to steam roll over all of us in Birmingham in the next 2 months, but harm reduction has, has indeed, saved so many lives over the years... People have a choice, give them that option, non-coercive, nonjudgemental, no-fucking-bullshit!! Spend your millions elsewhere Russell and leave us to do our jobs!!

* hope Russel Brand learns every step of whatever he is doing, that Harm Reduction empowers people to save their own lives, to rize up for themselves and others to effect change; the very notion he is promoting with his revolution concept.
Yet here this mongrel sits bashing those who do, creating additional barriers for them and preventing their individual and collective progress, simply because they use drugs and simply because his mind is too self absorbed to realise his own hypocrisy and the vandalism he is doing to the work of Harm Reduction, causing all this damage in the pursuit of the delusional cause he has.

I hope it blows up in his face and those who sent him.

After reading your comment, I am also concerned of the individual and sector damage he is going to cause those who dont have the professional experience you, Philippe and other Harm Reductionists have to navigate the psychological minefield and traps which Brand is bringing right into their community and lives.

I saw a pic the other day it was of Brand claiming he is a set up. I am starting to think he is "Brand Recovery Model"

Yes, thanks Starboy, this is the trailer for the tv show I am seeking. Its all locked up in codes

:) Yes you have remembered him right, a barnacle a woman scraped off her ass.

I dont think I could possibly explain Harm Reduction better than our international org ;) The Harm Reduction Community has been calling an end to the drug war since it started, and the HIV epidemic which emerged in the 80's provided further public health need and evidence to end the war and upscale services, which we are still fighting prejudice to achieve - including Russel Brand being a champion of prejudice against drug users.

There is also all manner of info on what is happening globally, including with UNAIDS partners.

What is harm reduction? | Harm Reduction International

This is a doco Philippe had created previously and apparently he took the "Russel Brand Recovery Model" to view and challenge his ideologies in Brands doco that we are all bitching about. Tie for an anti Russel Brand movement of Professionals and supporters.

A doctor who was claimed by governments, drug enforcement and child protection agencies to be a ruined child from exposure to crack as a youngin, apparently drugs ruin babies brains like they apparently do to human brains, and then they just repeat their parents mistakes with no hope of doing any different. Throw away's, too hard basket etc Or so popular, conservative, racist science wants people to believe.

If drugs or crack ruined brains then how did he become a Neuroscientist :D

Dr Carl speaks a lot about the racial tones and sentiments which are inherent to the war on drugs and the war on drug users and has many other videos, short and longer than this which I would highly recommend, esp for understanding the propaganda machine of distorted scientific information which the war on drugs depends upon.

"HIGH PRICE: A Neuroscientist's Journey of Self-Discovery That Challenges Everything You Know About Drugs and Society"

High Price is the harrowing and inspiring memoir of neuroscientist Carl Hart, a man who grew up in one of Miami's toughest neighborhoods and, determined to make a difference as an adult, tirelessly applies his scientific training to help save real lives.

In this provocative and eye-opening memoir, Dr. Carl Hart recalls his journey of self-discovery, how he escaped a life of crime and drugs and avoided becoming one of the crack addicts he now studies. Interweaving past and present, Hart goes beyond the hype as he examines the relationship between drugs and pleasure, choice, and motivation, both in the brain and in society. His findings shed new light on common ideas about race, poverty, and drugs, and explain why current policies are failing.

Dr. Hart is an Associate Professor of Psychology in both the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at Columbia University, and Director of the Residential Studies and Methamphetamine Research Laboratories at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. A major focus of Dr. Hart's research is to understand complex interactions between drugs of abuse and the neurobiology and environmental factors that mediate human behavior and physiology.

He is the author or co-author of dozens of peer-reviewed scientific articles in the area of neuropsychopharmacology, co-author of the textbook, Drugs, Society, and Human Behavior, and a member of a NIH review group. Dr. Hart was recently elected to Fellow status by the American Psychological Association (Division 28) for his outstanding contribution to the field of psychology, specifically psychopharmacology and substance abuse.

This is what the BIG BIG Boss of Harm Reduction International said ...

Rant alert. Just watched the Russell Brand documentary on drug policy. Fuck this guy. And, really, fuck his support for drug law reform. His anti-harm reduction message does way more harm than any good that comes from another celebrity saying drug laws are bad, because that's the easiest thing in the world to say. It's been said by better celebs, too, in better ways. It's said by sitting governments. But I've heard no celebrity yet calling a safe consumption room, which we need way more of, a 'well run crack house' or the people that use it are 'sick, fucked people'. What other anti-OST celebrities are there? Harm reduction, which is crucial, is fragile as all hell, including in the UK, and in need of money to save lives right now. What we have is an anti-harm reduction celebrity. Great.

Anti - Russel Brand WAR!!!!
