Russel Bland is causing a fucking shit storm within Harm Reduction and evidence based practice community - a fucking shit storm!!!
Hahaha I secretly hope he gets jumped at his next NA meeting - yeah fuck you Bland - what do you call a man with no legs or arms in a pile of leaves? Russell HAHAHAHAHA
One of the mannnnnnnny conversations happening:
My sympathies go out to my harm reduction friends who started last night with hopes that opinions had changed for the better but who now have broken TVs. I watched an episode of Comic Book Men instead, but read the fallout on FB and Twitter...
*I didn't watch it, but I had friends who did, some even appeared in it. But it seems from the reports of those whose opinions I value that it usual rhetoric continues...
*Here in Australia we have seen a huge number of agencies peremptorily de-funded, and this week the only publication for NSP workers and related Harm Reduction workers was 100% de-funded after 12 years of sterling service, supported by successive governments with unilateral support. And now we hear (TBC) that our loony Right, RC PM is appointing a few new people to the Australian National Council on Drugs - all of them right-wing, religious, died-in-the-wool conservatives. Yet another example of this government doing everything it can to ruin our reputation as leaders in a field, and drag us back to 'just say No' and the 1950s. In increasing despair...
*I watched out or curiosity with no hopes or aspirations for future change...I was there for not disappointed...was nicely surprised to see Philippe though

For my friends that do not work in my field: you do know that I believe as much in abstinence as I do in Harm Reduction. Whatever works for you, as long as it works. I'm glad I managed to get the chance to highlight the issue of street/public injecting in Birmingham. I'm glad Russell Brand wants to end the war on drugs. But I'm FUCKING FUMING he still only advocates abstinence. The only Harm Reduction setting he showed in this hour long documentary was a Swiss DCR. And we saw his reaction. Then it was solely abstinence based services, full of "successes". What about the success in giving someone some dignity?. What if Claude, the teacher from the Bern DCR wants to carry on using drugs, 40 years on, for his pain? What's wrong with that? But it was a completely biased programme yet again. I was reassured Mr Brand truly understood the principles of Harm Reduction as he had visited the Berne & Vancouver facilities. "Don't worry Philippe, Russell has changed since his last drugs documentary". But no, here he goes again with the "parking people on methadone" bullshit, highly offensive & dangerous argument. We know Russell, abstinence worked for you. Great. However, that green stuff that keeps those junkies dirty, as you like to call "them", is actually making a healthy, positive outcome in their lives. And this is scientific evidence, of course. And years of it. Why can't you get that in your thick head? Some people say you' re intelligent. I am not one of those people. And my hair is much better than yours.
*Oh bernard.... It is good that i have had the possibilitee to see all the damage to the injection Of street.... It is good that he also wants to legaliser drugs...... But this con has still not included. It is only na for him. 1 - hour programme: 2 minutes the dcr of berne, with not a record too positive, and the rest It is for the programs of abstinence and their success '. Fait chier! Shit!
*The problem is he is just as much a like as the people who he seeks to ridicule... He has his point of view and that is what he believes. He started well going with the police and highlighting the fact that they're scraping the surface and not effecting drug usage or drug supply's, so a new alternative option and approach is needed: good Russell. But then he pushes his personnel view. His black vs the establishments white. But the thing is life isn't black and white... It's greys, it's whites, it's chequered, it's striped, some days it's yellows and other days it's rainbows. In other words one approach isn't what is needed it's what works best for individuals. A system that caters for individuals needs within a bigger system that promotes understanding and care because that's what is needed not punishment but a helping hand in what ever form it takes.
*Russell Brand has NO authority to speak on drugs because all he's done is use, and get clean. Whoopee! All he can really say is what worked for him, he NOT an expert on substance use, and if he was, he wouldn't haven't used in the first place. He has probably undone a lot of good work in the harm reduction field by his biased opinion because there are some stupid people who will listen to him because he is a "celebrity"!!! What a total tonsil he is! Have lost all respect for him now. He needs to sit in my seat before he mouths off x
* Dont fucking trust hippys
*Mr Russell Brand, #EndTheDrugsWar Not oppose #HarmReduction & #DrugConsumptionRooms and #Abstinence as you do!
*I was just watching my second coat of paint drying whilst attempting to drink my own piss. I took my eyes off for a second and I'm now drenched. Oh well, it was warm while it lasted I suppose
*Nicely done, you came over well, I refused to be interviewed for the programme as I feared for how it would be distorted. He didn't use the words harm reduction once, but significantly did attack the Berne safe consumption room as "a well run crack house [...] sick, fucked people", and then as you note resorted to old lies about people being "parked on methadone". Let's not forget that this is the same Russell Brand who a few months ago referred to "hapless (often smelly) junkies"
http://www.independent.co.uk/.../russell-brand-launches...
A friend of mine, a street based drug user, remarked to me that it was "exploitative and predictable. What mass society thinks a drug user is and what they look like [...] nobody asked me if i wanted to go to rehab. The answer would be no. I don't feel like a useless, broken person [...] cos I'm not. I understand what I do and why but my opinion wouldn't have fitted the agenda".
*you should've just taken Nigel's NNEF presentation as fact... with all his straw dolls and all; that Russell Brand thinks he's cleverer than he is, and he's a twunt (I'm just paraphrasing what Nigel said of course ) xxx
