I always just took this line to literally mean that Ralph is a viking (an actual viking) in his dreams. I never thought it was anything else.

HOWEVER, it turns out that a group of people believe that to Ralph saying "I'm a viking!" means "I excel at this!" So he's not actually saying he dreams he's a viking, he's saying he's really good at sleeping.

I think it's WEIRD that anyone would think that (it's Ralph Wiggum, why would he used "I'm a viking!" to mean "I'm good at that!"?) but apparently some are very PASSIONATE about this issue.

Nobody says "I'm a viking" to mean "I'm good at this".
 
Did you "always think" it or did you read it on Urban Dictionary then think it?
 
I did too actually. I thought that saying he was a Viking was the best way Ralph's addled mind could express being good at something. And of course, if there's anything Ralph's going to be good at, it's being unconscious.

But now I know better!
 
There is also a group of people who believe that Marge is a modern day allegory for Lady Macbeth and that chief wiggum is Banquo. When Lady Macbeth oops! I mean Marge says "out!" to her errant children, they are in fact the blood spots that are evident on her besmirched skin.

It's so clear when it's explained like that isn't it?

This is more of a geeky debate than a controversy.

If he said "that's where I am a ######", THEN it would be a controversy.
