I blog on a "free" site.

They do, however, give the option to pay for additional features and abilities, and I give 'em a few dollars a month for this additional access and convenience.

Now...about every month or so, they crash the site. Hard. Can't get in. I drives me nuts as, while TK is fascinating and all, that's where I do most of my on-line writing.

The site's usual way of apology is to give everyone a few days of the paid type access. It's probably the only way to try to compensate people for the time of blocked access...but still.

HOW HARD IS IT TO KEEP A SITE UP!?!?!?!?

All of you tech-savvy types, answer that for me! And I don't want to hear that whole bandwidth restriction excuse either.

I can be of no help whatsoever except to point out that you of all people are asking how hard it is to keep something up. :D

I don't know alot about websites, but if it is semi-regular it could be maintence of some kind. Power outages where the server is? Some asshole who thinks it's funny to fuck around with people?

I dunno. Do they ever give a reason?

and I wish I could speak with any sort of authority on why it keeps crashing, but me, techno idjit at large LOL
 
Checked this morning, there was a note about "hardware failure", and an estimate of Tuesday or later for recovery.

I saved an archive of that journal about 2 months ago...but if it's gone there's some GOOD smut lost forever (or at least until I re-write it).
