Yes. A launch monitor measures your swing speed, ball speed, flight pattern, and trajectory. It's used to determine which loft to use on your driver (anywhere from 8* to 11*) as well as which shaft-and which flex-is a good fit for your swing. When you're about to plunk down $299 for a new driver, the $30 it costs to be custom fit is a no-brainer.
 
hmm, well the last time I tried to play golf I hit myself in the head with a golf ball. That takes extreme talent I'm told.
