iPod Friendly Levis

Actually, those are cool. I loved it when manufacturers started making handbags with cellphone/iPod compartments! It's just convenient, is all... :)
 
I've had a hard time getting on the iPod wagon. I'm not a big fan of cell phones, either.

I think I'm just not a fan of technology becoming an impediment to possibly striking up a RL conversation with someone, which is where the private worlds created by iPods, cell phones, etc. seem to be taking us.

I guess I'm a situational Luddite.
 
Music. I've become a music junkie. I own more of it then I ever thought I would. My iTunes tells me it would take 285 days of continuous listening to get thru it all.

iPods do, indeed, impede spontaneous conversation. However, when you're working out, or on a long bus/plane trip, it comes in handy. Not to mention the beach.

My next Holy Grail is the video iPod. My friend already converted the whole first season of TOS, ST: TMP/DE, and Outer Limits for when I do purchase one. It would just be cool to have video on a whim.

As for the ipod, I bought one on a whim for one sole purpose: I LOVED the idea of having one small device which could function as a library for my entire music collection. It still amazes me that every CD I own has been tranferred into that one handheld device...



It doesn't disrupt my conversation time (I'm a people person, too) as I use it when I'm writing, walking, and commuting (i.e. napping on the train).

And the ability to put EVERY SONG I OWN on shuffle is amazing. It's totally changed the way I listen to music. And, it's great to have music in the house for the kids, with a minimum of effort selecting and playing it...

One funny thing is that, no doubt due to my radio experience, I have no tolerance for small earphones (and I despise those earplug things you stick in your ears). My "cans" are four times the size of my ipod...!

Yeah, I hate those "ear bud" things. I feel like I'm getting my ears examined at the doctor's.

I'll admit the attraction of the iPod. I'd like to pick up one of those Sirius receivers you have, with the mp3 player. But I'd probably only use it at the gym.

Maybe my perspective is altered because I spend so much time on a college campus. These kids are wired--all the time. I can't even show a film in my class without the fucking cellphones coming out and text messaging going on. They've all either got a phone on their ear or headphones on. Everyone just seems so isolated.
 
Don't like ipods myself. I have a 2GB MP3/USB disk. It rocks, because I can store most of the good tracks (I have so many tracks though, and sometimes with me, some music is crap, and at other times it rocks... just depends on my mood) on the computer, shuffle, AND use it for data storage.

Incidently, the GF has gone iPod Crazy. Every track is on the iPod, whether she likes the music type (or the band) or not, I think she just wants to say "I have 60Gb of music right here" to people.
 
I don't have an iPod but I may get one. I would get the 30gb video one. I don't like macs but its only made by apple so no problem, they are allright I guess. A bit pricy perhaps.
 
There was an interesting article in a British newspaper about how the iPod and other mp3 devices have changed the relationship between listeners and music. The article argues that there isn't any real connection between "fans" and the bands they listen to anymore--that the mp3s are just a commodity to be collected.

Your remarks about your GF, Harkley, seem to substantiate this.

BTW, If anyone requires an alternative to Quicktime Pro in order to convert video files to the iPod format, let me know. (PM). (The version I use converts Windows media formats too - AND I can give it to you for free ;))

The thing is, she doesnt even listen to half of it. It kinda irritates me. When we're on long trips, I'm the only one who listens to that stuff.

That article is pretty lame. Clearly there is some tangible loss between going out with your friends to pick up an album or single you like and having a physical representation of that in your hands that you lose with downloadable media but it's allowing for more choice, more selection. It's brining you to the attention of a wider spectrum of music than ever before.
 
^When I download something, and I like it, I normally burn a CD of it, and if I'll also normally print off album covers.

I like being able to use a CD player.
 
The oddest thing, and I will only admit it here.

Of all the songs I currently own, I keep going back to my original favorites, because of the emotional connection the songs provide. Most of my library consists of, basically, cool bragging rights.

My friend and current houseguest keeps asking me if I've listened to his stuff yet. I don't have the heart to let him know that I still mostlly listen to my stuff.

But, hey, I have over 70,000 songs and videos. Chances are if you name a soundtrack, I'll have it. Cool, huh... ;)
 
I'm all for pockets, but don't they make carrying cases with belt-clips for those things? Hell, the case I got for my PocketDJ not only came with a belt-clip, but a friggin' arm band, as well!
 
God, could they create anything MORE stupid? Like i'm gonna spend $200+ on a pair of jeans. I barely spend ten!
