Special Counsel Robert Hur defends Biden memory comments; other takeaways from Hur's hearing​

Special Counsel Robert Hur went before the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday morning to discuss his report on President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents – and his explosive commentary on Biden's memory and demeanor. In the report released early last month, Hur did not recommend the Justice Department charge Biden with any crimes for the classified documents found in his former Washington, D.C. office and Delaware home, saying the evidence did not establish his guilt "beyond a reasonable doubt." But the report also described Biden as a "well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory" and said he couldn't remember important details about his own life – something Biden's team forcefully pushed back on.

Hur defended his characterization of Biden's memory
Democrats decried Hur's depiction of Biden as an eldary man with "dimiminished capacities" and memory loss issues. Many argued the characterization was inappropriate and politically motivated, noting that Hur was the principal associate deputy attorney general at the Justice Department under Trump, who later appointed him to the by the U.S. attorney for the Maryland district.

Siskel said that despite House Republicans collecting over 100,000 pages of records and conducting interviews with dozens of witnesses, including multiple public hearings, “none of the evidence has demonstrated that the president did anything wrong”. “This impeachment inquiry in large part has been based on allegations made by troubling sources,” Siskel wrote, referring to an FBI informant who was criminally charged last month for lying about his explosive allegations about Biden. Siskel’s four-page letter is a sign that the White House is taking an increasingly aggressive stance against the impeachment inquiry, which Democrats say is a clear effort to distract voters during an election year. “It’s obviously time to move on,” he wrote. “There is too much important work to be done for the American people to continue wasting time on this charade.”

House Republicans want Biden to testify at April impeachment hearing as White House slams probe​

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer on Thursday officially invited President Joe Biden to testify before the panel as part of a Republican impeachment into allegations that Biden used his office to participate in and profit from his family's foreign business dealings -- which he has adamantly denied. The White House is pushing back against top Republicans' misleading criticism of President Joe Biden for issuing a proclamation in support of transgender people on the same day as Easter. A spokesman for the president rejected the attacks from the House speaker, former President Donald Trump and others that Biden's "blasphemous" message for the Transgender Day of Visibility goes against Christianity.

"As a Christian who celebrates Easter with family, President Biden stands for bringing people together and upholding the dignity and freedoms of every American," White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said in a statement to ABC News. "Sadly, it's unsurprising politicians are seeking to divide and weaken our country with cruel, hateful, and dishonest rhetoric. President Biden will never abuse his faith for political purposes or for profit," Bates added.

Biden, who is only America's second Catholic president and regularly attends Mass, faced mounting conservative criticism over the weekend because of a proclamation he issued on Friday honoring "the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans" for the Transgender Day of Visibility -- which occurs annually on March 31.
