Is Serenity any good?

headvoid

Can I have Ops?
I've nearly finished *obtaining* it.

By the way - BDM is used to stand for Big Damn Movie amongst the fans apparantly.

Am i going to be bored and hate Joss Whedon again? I normally do.

Did you watch Firefly? Did you like it? Serenity isn't as good as the series, but it's still okay...if you're a Firefly fan. If not, who knows! Nathan Fillion is good to watch and there's some good dialogue, nice effects, and a decent attempt at a big concept sci-fi story, but, on the other hand, some of it's a bit shit (like every one of Kaylee's lines.) Revenge Of The Sith was the superior 2005 sci-fi movie, bang bang!

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't as good as the series LIKE WACKY SAID ALREADY. Nathan Fillion is pretty.

I likee alot.
Watch it and see what ya think.

I have seen neither, but am a fan of mr. whedon's other works...

Serenity is a good movie. It's enjoyable and I can't see anyone being dissapointed watching it if they're even only a casual fan of Whedons.

It's really a movie for the fans though so if you haven't seen Firefly it will seem pretty lame and confusing.

The problem with Serenity is that the Miranda plot didn't have any real impact and there was nothing established that made you really give a fuck about it.

Sure, it was alluded to in the series but that wasn't enough.

I think there were better ways to craft a story around River.

Still, it's a decent movie even if it did fall short of the mark in a few areas. River is hot. Kaylee is Not.

Movie kicked ass.

Like the others had said, not as good as the series, had unessisary changes to the ship that ruined the lived in aspect of the one used in the series.

Its like if they made a new star wars film and the falcon was made of brightly pollished chrome.

Plus the deaths seemed shoehorned in.

I'm all for killing characters when its nessisary, but not when its forced to add an element of danger that could have been created with better writing.

Plus with only a few exceptions most of the characters wernt acting constantly with how they behaved in the show.

Maybe if the show had a few years on tv before the film they could have naturally evolved into what they were in the film, but it seemed a bit too jarring a change.

River turning into Buffy was stupid too.

I'll obtain the series as well then. thanks all!

Only 13 episodes and at least 8 of them are good.

I watched it before the series, and it made next to no sense to me. I wasn't particularly impressed, though the obvious Whedon dialogue shone through.

A couple of weeks later, I picked the series up on the cheap, watched it, loved it, then watched the movie, and it probably improved by a good 30% in my eyes.

Jayne is da best.

he just kicks ass!

Serenity is a good film you should probably buy it I mean it's really cheap and the extra features are really good plus Summer Glau is pretty so yeah.

plus you get to learn TEH SECRET SONG!!

if you can find the easter egg....

But you really must watch the series first.

It's a bit like Star Trek, I suppose. If you hadn't seen TOS, then The Wrath of Khan would take a while to settle into, you wouldn't be familiar with the already established dynamics among the crew and the death of Spock would have much less impact.

I can't really imagine watching Serenity first. Especially since it might put you off the series before you've seen it.

^fair enough.
I already loved the series (JOSSWHEDONISGOD) and was NOT disappointed in Serenity at all - but yer right - the um, things that happened to the characters had greater meaning than if seeing it as a stand alone, although I do think it would be possible to do so - but the analogy to watching Wrath of Khan without seeing TOS is apt.

If you really had no experience with Firefly, you'd probably think Book was just some guy they introduced for the movie so that the crew would have a motivation to go after the bad guys. Talk about underused.
