Is there some reason $4.00 a gallon is significant?

We must think it will just stop there.

$4.00 is just a number, as we will soon learn. This old supply and demand economy is going to implode shortly. It relied on cheap oil as it's underpinning and oil isnt cheap any more, and it won't ever be cheap again.

Gas prices will go up another dollar before labor day, and probably another half or so before Christmas, unless the scarcity economy really kicks in, which should produce some social unrest in the process.

Think clearly now. Gas costs 100 dollars a tank (or 50 is you have a 12.5 or 13 gal tank) That's up 42 dollars from last year.

That isnt five percent inflation, and Bush has made sure all the Consumer Price Index info has been carefully muted into the news stream.

Inflation is probably around 18 percent this year so far, and looks to pop 25 before the end of the year. Things will change. They have to, or else WalMart Nation is going to riot.

What the hell are you talking about? The national average last Memorial Day was $3.32 a gallon. This year, it's $3.93. For a 12-gallon fillup, that's $7.32 more, not "$42", you nitwit.

We've not even come cose to true supply-and-demand pricing. In most European countries, they pay $8 for the equivalent of a gallon of gas. We've got a long way to go.

If you're looking to assign blame, point the finger in your own direction. For decades Americans have been in love with high-horsepower, low mpg trucks, SUV's, and sports cars. Fuel-efficient cars didn't sell, so automakers didn't make many of them. It'll be another 4-5 years before you see more hybrids being offered.

Secondly, you know all those wonderful cradle-to-the-grave social programs Obama and Clinton are promising? How do you think they'll pay for them? That's right, with cigarette, liquor, and gasoline taxes.

If you don't like the price of gas, drive less, get a more fuel-efficient car, and write your local legislature to cut worthless programs so the taxes don't climb even higher. Short of that, quit complainin'.

an Old Timer told me once that back in the late 60's and 70's, gas was like 25 cents a gallon

The Muscle cars they drove back then drank gas like a fish drinks water, but gas was so cheap that no one cared. Only the Oil Embargo after the war was when gas prices began to soar.

Hey McGee, I have an '06 Sentra 1.8 that gets 38 a gallon. It runs on flex fuel, because I bored out the carb jets .024 micrometers to accept ethanol, which I home brew in my backyard still from my grass clippings.

In short, shut the fuck up.

^^I was speaking metaphorically when I said "you", dumbass. Still how about addressing the fact that gas only costs $7 more for a fillup, not "42 dollars" more.

My Pathfinder gets 16 mpg. Since I have a real job, and I'm not a balding bellboy, I don't care, because I can afford it. Not my fault you're driving a *snicker* Sentra.

Keep it up and by the time you're 125 you'll have a Lexus!

It was until the oil embargo of 1973. It went nuts again in 1979 as well, ended the 70's just above $1.

No you weren't "dumbass" you were responding directly to my post.

Your Pathfiner is the reason shit is the way it is fuckley. You and all your idiot big car, SUV gas guzzling moronic consumer buds.

It'll be fun to pass you on the highway when you run out "dumbass".

Prove I don't have a real job dipshit. I make more in a day these days than you do in a week, fuckface.

I dunno McGee, 100 bucks a tank is a far cry from the 43.25 it cost this time last year. How did you figure 7.00? Gas was 1.87 memorial day last year, at least around here.

Again, shut the fuck up, k?

^^Bullshit. AAA averages were $3.67 last memorial day. There's no fucking way your gas was almost $2 less a gallon! It's people like you who spew unsubstantiated nonsense that give your party such a black eye.

Wait, first you said 3.67, then 3.05. Which is it? And is 60 cents a gallon (given your stupid argument) really a 7 dollar difference on a 25 gallon tank (like your guzzler has)?

:bigass:

I bought 500 gallons at 1.87 per on my birthday last year *(May 27) and filled my underground oil tank with it, that's all I know.

Dipshit.

I use a gallon and a half a tank with the ethanol I brew, and I still have half a tank. I've spent about 320 on gas in the last year, and will continue to do so for the next year, while you blow hundreds on your nice guzzler. You'd be better off blowing me for the effort.

Again, please kindly shut the fuck up, moron.

Actually, read my first post. The National average last Mem Day was $3.32 vs. $3.93 this year. That's a sixty-one cent increase, or about $7 for a 12-gallon fillup (you're the one who used 12 gallons as a benchmark.). If you bothered to look at the website, you'll see that in your state of VT, the increase has been greater, about 90 cents a gallon, or about $11 per fillup. I still don't see how you got this "42 dollars more" claim. Just like a lib, make wild accusations with no backup.

BTW, my Pathfinder has a 17-point-something gallon tank (it's Japanese, so the round number is in litres, of course), so it costs me about $70 to fill, 'cause I need to use premium. Stil, as a percentage of my take-home pay, it's insignificant. I spend more on comics per week than I do gas.

Proof please. I'd believe you could run a car on the methane that comes out of your mouth before I'd believe the horseshit you're trying to sell here.

And you do NOT have a UST. The Fed mandated that all privately-owned UST's be removed back in the early 2000's. It's impossible to get a UST for gasoline. Do you even look this shit up before you post blatant lies?

Ask Darthsikle about USTs. They're a fucking nightmare with the EPA and local regulatory commissions.

:D You must think I care a little about either about what you think, or your opinion, but thanks for dancing "big man". My tank is right in the front of my house, is a 550 gal home oil tank converted for gasoline usage legally and is inspected every 24 months. Um, I hate to break this to you, but all gas stations have UST's. Every single one.

btw, your "pathfinder" is the reason we're in this boat, stupid. Just because you can afford it doesn't give you the excuse (or the right) to exacerbate the situation.
