Star Trek Captain Narrates Insane Documentary About Geocentrism

by Jay Hathaway
Today 1:18pm

Kate Mulgrew, best known as Captain Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager, is the narrator of a new and completely bonkers documentary pushing the theory that the universe is centered around the Earth. The Principle was announced in December, but a new trailer has reignited the "debate" over Geocentrism, along with worries that Mulgrew actually buys into it.

Geocentrism, in this case, is the (thoroughly debunked) belief that the Earth is a special place created by God at the center of the universe. The creator of the documentary, Robert Sungenis, has been pushing it online for a long time through his website and book, Galileo Was Wrong, The Church Was Right.

According to the trailer for his film, Sungenis believes there's a NASA conspiracy to promote actual science (true) and erase all evidence pointing to a geocentric universe (uh...).

Sungenis is also a notorious anti-Semite and Holocaust denier who apparently believes in a Zionist plot to install Satan as the ruler of the world. He got his Ph.D. in religious studies from "a private distance-learning institution located in Republic of Vanuatu," where his dissertation was on ... you guessed it, Geocentrism.

He's also the principal speaker in The Principle.

But how did he get Captain Janeway on board with this wacky pseudoscience? If the other celebrity speakers involved with the film are any indication, he may have just neglected to tell her what it was about.

Well-known physicists Michio Kaku and Lawrence Krauss also feature prominently in the Principle trailer, although you'll notice they never say anything that directly supports Geocentrism. That's because they don't believe it—the whole thing is a bullshit editing trick.

On Twitter, Krauss denounced the film and said his entire part was selectively swiped from previous interviews.

For all who asked: Some clips of me apparently were mined for movie on geocentricism. So stupid does disservice to word nonsense. Ignore it.

Kate Mulgrew has yet to comment on the content of the film, or how she came to participate in it.

SHe doesn't have an offficial Twitter, so this may take a while...

I doubt it -- she's on 2 different shows at the moment: Orange Is the New Black and NTSF:SD:SUV. She also wrapped up work on the final season of Warehouse 13, which premieres next week.

It's sounding like several people who lent their voices may not have been aware of what the final product was going to be. Let the backtracking statements (and maybe lawsuits) commence...

SHE HAS SPOKEN (on her Facebook fanpage):

"I understand there has been some controversy about my participation in a documentary called THE PRINCIPLE. Let me assure everyone that I completely agree with the eminent physicist Lawrence Krauss, who was himself misrepresented in the film, and who has written a succinct rebuttal in SLATE. I am not a geocentrist, nor am I in any way a proponent of geocentrism. More importantly, I do not subscribe to anything Robert Sungenis has written regarding science and history and, had I known of his involvement, would most certainly have avoided this documentary. I was a voice for hire, and a misinformed one, at that. I apologize for any confusion that my voice on this trailer may have caused. – Kate Mulgrew"

A-HA!

Maybe they told her it was going to be like a Ken Burns documentary, where she'd voice quotes from, say, Marie Antoinette, but not telling her that it's actually a documentary about how great Marie was and how the peasants deserved to starve.

Maybe it was another Future Janeway, one who was more pissed about how things turned out, and now she's trying to fuck with things.
