John Cleese has claimed that Celebrity Big Brother bosses have begged him to enter the house.

The comedian said he has been hounded to appear in the Channel 4 show since it first aired in 2001.

In an entry entitled 'Big Brother bribery' on his blog, he wrote: "With the new (last?) series of Big Brother UK starting tonight, I thought it a good idea to put the record straight.

"It's not widely known that the producers of Celebrity Big Brother have attempted to recruit yours truly for every UK series so far.

"In fact, they have frequently resorted to quite ludicrous levels of bribery, sending in the post entirely shameless blandishments of a most extravagant nature, all of which of course have had to be returned with a kind refusal note."

He added: "I have nothing against Mr. Orwell. I simply do not want to appear in his television show, and neither do I wish to be interviewed by the clearly insane Davina.

"Now, if the Sony Award-winning Dermot [O'Leary] was still in place, then it might be different, but he isn't, and so the matter is closed."

LOL. Why would they even think one of the most successful comedy actors ever would want to be in Big Brother?

*around the producer's conference table*

"what about alec guiness? would he want to be on the show?"

"doubtful... what about graham chapman? he's a funny bloke, eh?"

"um... hate to break it to you but..."

"what about john cleese? he's a laugh riot and he's not really doing much these days save the occasional harry potter cameo."

"cleese is a man of class and character, i doubt he's going to want to be shoved into a house full of loonies for more than five minutes, much less than the duration of the show..."

"should we ask anyway? he might have Alzheimer's..."

"here's hoping!! cheers!"

*glasses clink*

I remember before CBB2007 there were rumours that Stephen Hawking would be in the house...but we ended up wtih Jade Goody again...that ended well.

There's no point in going on there unless your career is rock bottom or you have no money. John Cleese has lots of money and can therefore take his pick of jobs.

The origins of Eggs Mayonnaise...

Andrew Sachs (that's his name, isn't it?) is always busy doing voiceovers. I doubt he has time to be stuck in a house with a bunch of glamourless models and hasbeen variety entertainers.
