Joker movie was ok, just ok.

Semi spoilers alert?

Its true. It didn't deserve the fear, or praise heaped upon it. As hard as they tried to strip it down and as great as Jwackoff Phoenix was (at times) it was still just another comic book movie. It still has the feel, vibe, and tone of most comic book movies.
And, they're definitely setting up for a sequel with a Batman. Don't kid yourself. If they cannibalize Frank Miller's work just right it'll have an interesting plot.

Its a good movie for a boring afternoon. I could slightly understand some people's apprehension about it inspiring some maniac IRL... Until they watch it. Its just not what they made it out to be good, or bad. It was just another comic movie. It wasn't steeped in realism, it wasn't brilliant, and frankly I felt Phoenix gave an uneven performance. Not in a "uneven cause he's crazy!!" just uneven. His look and body language was his best part of the performance. He looked like the Joker. He's just not convincing as someone menacing. At no point when he talked did he seem menacing, or frightening. Just sad, and crazy. He was the perfect Joker until he opened his mouth. It was a comic book version of the King of Comedy, and frankly not as good. And, that movie isn't all that great.

And it borrowed so heavily from other sources I was disappointed it wasn't more original. If you're gonna add THAT certain scene from existing work featuring the Joker they should've went ahead, and went all in.
Like maybe he started out a chemist who quit to do comedy, and clown work on his descent to madness. I mean, was he always just a loser who misspelled due to his brain injury that didn't finish school? Why did he have to have a brain injury? Why couldn't he have been a regular guy who had grew up with a screwy mother? Maybe she got sick from a chemical accident at a Wayne owned lab, and he finds her notes. Then he gases, and poisons the whole audience during his Talk show appearance like the damn book. Perhaps they didn't wanna portray out and out mass murder instead settling for protests and riots due to concerns of imitation. I don't know I'm just more a fan of the ambiguous past Joker with no clear origin. This was just the comic book version of an old Martin Scorsese movie.

Don't be surprised if at the end of the Robert Pattinson Batman it doesn't have a end credits scene with Joaquin Phoenix sitting catatonic watching a tv in Arkham when suddenly a Batman story pops up, and he awakens from his self imposed stupor in excitement for a playmate worthy of his madness. Yeah just like the Dark Knight Returns comic, but different!

My wife wants to see it

I’m not too bothered

Take her to see The Lion King instead and when she says "wait, this isn't Joker, it's some shit about lions!" say "THERE IS NO JOKER MOVIE, THAT TRAILER WAS JUST ME FILMING MYSELF IN CLOWN MAKE-UP!"

I love that Elton John is trashing the new Lion King movie in the media, since they didn't consult with him on it.

But then I remember I'm mad at him for sticking up for fellow billionaire Ellen for watching football with a genial war criminal.

I really enjoyed it, but I wasn’t (and still aren’t) very aware of the critics reviews or other controversy. And I’m not a comic book fan, so I don’t know what was made up from scratch and what was already Joker lore. I do think it could spark a lunatic or two, considering The Dark Knight kind of did, and that wasn’t at all sympathetic to the Joker.

Still, it had some important things to say about what it’s like to have a largely invisible illness, and the treatment of people who do.
