The Leaves

The leaves fell to the ground
one at a time
I wished I could just shake the tree
and make them
all fall
at once
but
nature
did not intend
for it to happen this way
I waited
each leaf

The first leaves hurt a great deal
each time they fell
the pain endured longer and longer
and it was harder and harder
over time
the leaves falling
did me no harm
perhaps I was used to the pain

my trunk grew stronger
the ground
covered in leaves
created a pattern

a pattern only I could appreciate

Don't feel bad, we had like 17 inches of wet snow that destroyed shit for the last 36 hours.

We'll be at 60 tomorrow though
