Local newspaper online discussions

I joined mine a few weeks ago to discuss one particular story, but the more I read, the more I think there are about 5 people on there who feel they have to comment on absolutely everything, and will always pick a contrary opinion to one of the other five.

They all leap on spelling mistakes as an excuse not to answer any hard questions asked of them, yet ignore any they make that people point out, and they seem to be there 24 hours a day.

Not to mention so right ring they make most taxi drivers seem like liberal wishy washies.

Is it like that in other cities?

I don't know about the comments section, but last time I went on the site for our local paper it appeared that one reporter had written every single article.

My hometown paper is exactly like that -- the same 4 people leave comments unless it's about some old teacher/coach who died, and then everyone comes out of the woodwork.

New York City papers are, of course, different. The NY Times commentariat are a little more thoughtful and reserved, but the Post and the Daily News commenters are like HuffPo, only 50% more retarded.

This is why I just stay at Gawker. All comfy cozy, I can be brainy but not too brainy, all they care about is that I'm witty. WHICH I AM OKAY?

What?! You read other places besides here?

Just kidding.

I don't often read the "paper" online as I love the actual fucking newspaper ok. But when I do-I think it is sad when someone dies in an automobile accident and the people act like assholes. Fucking assholes! srsly?

Anyway. I get too caught up in that.

I get my news solely from online sources.

Is that bad?

Who has time to read a newspaper?

Seriously.

(I do read the Classified section almost every day though)

That's exactly what happened yesterday.

Some passenger in a porche died, so without any other facts people start accusing him of not wearing a seat belt, or that the driver was speeding, that he might have been drunk, ect, all less than 24 hours after the incident, I just hope they guys family aren't reading.

I read the local paper LOCALLY, but I read HuffPo, Salon, and Slate online, and sometimes other online newsy things. The comments at some of them are pretty good, but Huffpo is awful usually.

I'm blessed with a local reporter who's really good at her job and conducts a multimedia newsfeed pretty much singlehandedly. I get my local info from her stuff mostly, and I've kinda turned to twitter for my breaking world news habit. There are a ton of solid headline feeds that tell pretty much whatever you need to know.

And I love when idiots comment, it gives me someone to fuck with on my daily rounds. Political dumbasses are the most fun, but kneejerk local reactionary posters are a kick too.
