OK THEN.

Wow.. DESMOND DIDN'T DIE!! See, I knew something bad was going to happen to him, so the whole episode I was waiting for him to croak. At first I thought he was going to jump out of the helicopter. I'm glad they got the time travel stuff explained (sort of)! Also the way time passes on the island is going to explain why Walt is older now.. wait, I don't know. I just tried to think about it and confused myself. NEVER MIND.

I thought it was interesting that almost the entire show was off the island, but I knew they'd have to explain what happened to Desmond and Sayid eventually.

Alan Dale bought the journal from the Black Rock, and the seller's name was Hanso (Toxicdistortion told me the seller's name, I wasn't listening to that part). I wonder if they'll ever tell us what that journal says!!! I bet Penny gets her hands on it and that's how she finds out about the island, or something.

NEVER HAVE I BEEN SO GLAD TO BE WRONG ABOUT A CHARACTER'S DEATH. Maybe there's hope for Claire after all.

not only that but he LOOKED HOT with the short hair and shaved off beard!!

lol Desmond is Nerd Boy's anchor!!!

Penny to the rescue!!! I hope the Smoke Monster gets her Dad. He's more hateful than Ben actually.

Holy crap was that just a fantastic episode.

Every single Desmond episode has been great, and this was awesome. I love the Time Travel stuff in Lost.

Here's what I think: Time doesn't move "slower" on the island, but rather surrounding the islands are sort-of-clouds of time disruptions, and when the helicopter went through it it jumped forward in time to the next day, in the same way as Farraday's test rocket traveled in time when it went from the boat to the island.

This might even explain where the Dharma supplied that dropped in Season 2 came from, what with Dharma not longer existing. They were dropped in the 70's, but traveled through time to now.

I don't think it was the seller who was a Hanzo, but rather the writer of the journal, the Black Rock's first mate, was a Hanzo. Which I guess is how the Hanzo corp found the island (if they were looking for the Black Rock).

remember Daniel asking Desmond (in the lab) if he'd been exposed to radiation or magnetism and then later Daniel puts on the radiation apron mentioning his exposure due to the repeated experiments, but Desmond asks him [sic]what do you wear to protect your head? (and Daniel kinda goes oh yeah! and gives a 'didnt -think- of- that -shrug')?
so that explains why Daniel gets affected...Desmond we know from the electromagnetic wave from the hatch exploding....and the radio operator describing his boatmate's and his symptoms after they tried to approach the island...
...so.... this knowledge is clearly known among certain persons : there are side effects [ if one veers away even slightly from the "safe coordinates" in approaching the island] for people exposed to radiation or high magnetic fields.
All this just leads to more questions!!!
Is this safe "corrider" artificial? If so, who created it? And to what purpose? Was it caused by some of those atomic blast experiments thye were firing off in the fifties and therefore an accident?

AND

If it's only time travel in the "consciousness" - how was Desmond able to manifestly find Penny's father, get a physical note with an adress, go to her place and tell Penny to answer the phone eight years in the future? Or meet up with Daniel in the lab? huh?!?! huh?!!!

Ooh OK that makes sense too.

WELL curiousa2z, maybe the consciousness jumps into the body or SOMETHING. I wonder if after having jumped into your old self and then fixing yourself back in the future self if the old self remembers the future self coming back for a visit?!!

Actually I watched it again and Hanzo WAS the seller, but I think it was mentioned in one of the ARG's that the Black Rock's first mate (or captain) was a member of the Hanzo family, which is probably why he had it in the first place.

why are the Desmond eps always so good?

and the scene of he & Penny on the phone: I'm not gonna lie: Kleenex time!!

Penny and Desmond are great tragic characters.

^ and not cheesy actors that one wishes to smack!
(although to be fair, jack's toned down the emo thus far this season)

I don't normally get emotional about tv shows, but the phone call between Pen and Des nearly was a kleenex moment for me... absolutely brilliant. The whole episode was fantastic.

The only thing that confused me was how the calendar on the ship seemed to have more or less the same date as on the island. I thought the outside world was ahead by about a year or something... but I dunno. Anyway, Sayid said something like "I didn't realise it was almost Christmas", but on the island Christmas has already been and gone by a few days, hasn't it? So was the freighter calendar behind?

I think there's been some fudging with what date everything is, and I think Lostpedia nad some more official sources disagree, but I think it's sort of something like the boat is on Dec 24th 2004, and the island is basicially at the same time, although it miught be a few days ahead of the boat.

But nowhere anywhere did they ever ever day the outside world was a year ahead or anything like that.

Well I thought that was how they were going to explain giant Walt. He's certainly not a few hours older.

Maybe Walt went in and out of the time change thing several times.

Or maybe he's just the smoke monster.

Well, there's a real Walt somewhere!

Honestly though, I'd be able to pretend that Walt hasn't aged a bit if they didn't want him to.. or they could just use a younger actor.

Or cut his shins off.

damn kids and their growth spurts!

Maybe Micheal deviated from the course a little when he left the island, and ended up getting back to america three years before he got on teh plane.

ZOMG best episode ever! Well, maybe. The ending was really well done. Best emotional moment since Charlie's "top five" list. The story was obviously borrowed a bit from TNG's All Good Things and Slaughterhouse Five (they even used the "unstick in time" phrase.) I'm not sure if it all made sense or holds together with what we already know of Desmond, but it was certainly entertaining.

Daniel was a bit of an asshole in the past. Will he turn into an asshole in the present now that he remembers Desmond Hume is his constant?

It's funny how Desmond was in the Royal SCOT'S guard in SCOTLAND but he was the only scottish one.
