Mad Men 7x04 - "The Monolith"

Eggs Mayonnaise

All In With The Nuts
Sterling Cooper & Partners prepares for a guest; Don contacts an old friend; Roger deals with problems at home; Peggy is underestimated.

This will be the halfway point of the season -- I can't believe there are only 7 episodes to enjoy this year, and then waiting a year for the rest.

I hate The Walking Dead.

Did they film it all as one season or are they yet to film the remaining eight episodes? If they're all filmed already that makes the break EVEN WORSE.

Bert and Peggy being so mean to Don seems a bit much, maybe? I mean I get that they probably have reasons and I'm more willing to forgive Don because he's the main character. But I'm #TeamDon at the moment.

Roger's daughter is going to join the Manson Family and murder Megan. :(

They took a break of a few weeks in between filming both halves of the season. They're probably still filming the last half now. But yeah, they are filming everything this year. This way they don't have to negotiate another year's contract with the actors, but they get anotehr year to get ratings and ad revenue and award nominations. CRAPPY CHEAP BIZNESS MOVE. THANK WALKING DEAD AND BREAKING BAD FOR THE IDEA.

Yeah this episode was over the top, and not in an "oh wow" way. Bert's personal meanness toward Don is uncharacteristic, as are joan's and Peggy's. The writers aren't convincing us to follow them in the directions they want to take the story. It's being done sloppily so far this season.

Roger's story felt more like comic relief, but then so did the computer installation. But the way in which they want us to think it's profoundly bizarre isn't working -- it's just coming out bizarre.

Always good to see Mona again (John Slattery's real-life wife, BTW). She had some nice zingers this time.

Freddie Rumsen -- the hero of Mad Men? Who knew!

Weiner was on Terry Gross last week saying that they're still shooting (ep 10 I think) and that he was writing ep 12.

I enjoyed the computer guy reflecting how he often felt that he served as a metaphor. That pleased me.
