I'm not wearing any panties!!
This is fantastic:
A chronology of the war:
This must be one of the largest webwars in history.
Events in a Nutshell:
Everyone knows Ebaumsworld has had a long history of stealing; if you didn't, now you do. Recently they have had fights with Something Awful, but when they stole from YTMND just recently it sparked off a large chain of events.
YTMND users, furious, asked for help. Luelinks, Something Awful, and many other sites gladly accepted.
Forces planned for an attack on 12 AM EST. Word quickly spread after the attack began; Knova and Newgrounds happily joined in (Ebaumsworld has made many people angry, it seems). 4Chan, busy in a separate invasion of another site, also joined in some part with the smackdown.
The ebaumsworld.com forums were mercilessly obliterated. At first, there was just heavy lag, until the database crashed. Eventually the forums came back up, but crashed again. When it arose the next time, it prevented anyone not logged into an account from even viewing the forums and began mass-banning any new users. They quickly went down again, this time fully- the forums subdomain temporarily shut down.
It came back on, of course, eventually. As of this moment, the forums page stands at not letting any non-member in, but there are still hundreds - if not thousands - of invaders infesting every core of their system. The live chat rooms have been taken over by YTMND as well. Luelinks has been hit ferociously by Ebaums counter-DDOS attacks, as well as other sites. The ebaums site was hacked and every so often redirects to pornographic, offensive, and adult finding websites.
This hacking has continued through the course of the day, as has the raiding. The attack has lost some strength, but it is still going substantially strong. It might even pass the 24 hour mark in constant length.
Some GameFAQS users have also been suspended in relation to invasion of eBaum's world.
A chronology of the war:
4:17 PM
1.) At the start of the invasion, it began with taking over the Ebaums chats completely and infesting all their forums. Soon there were also DDOS attacks springing up form everywhere. The four big players of the attack were YTMND, Newgrounds, Luelinks, and Something Awful.
2.) There were numerous planning chats on AIM of 'The Raid', as it has come to be known as by many.
3.) Soon enough Ebaums users retaliated with DDOS attacking Luelinks and possibly the other attacking sites. DDOSing is the only way they could possibly attack Luelinks, since they can't touch the boards themselves. The only thing its doing is causing a bit of lag and temporary errors here and there.
4.) Many other sites joined in the attack effort, including, but not limited to, 4chan, Fark, Knova, IGN, and the LUE board of Gamefaqs.
5.) Various people have been downloading the Ebaumsworld site EN MASSE with the help of a certain *legal* toll that does so for them. As a result, the site is always getting constant bandwith drain as people garner every file in the site.
6.) Luelinks found Eric Bauman's home address and business address. Expect hundreds of thousands of UPS boxes, Mormon bibles, and sex-related materials to be delivered there. It has been rumored theyv'e also found his home phone number. Hilarity ensues.
7.) As of 2:25 PM on Jan 8, Kenman, notorious hacker and mischief-maker extrodinare, was rumored to be assiting Luelinks in planning other stages of the raid.
8.) While the Luelinks part of the invasion has been categorised by some as "unofficial" since the boards have rules against invasion, a bit over an hour ago that changed. LlamaGuy, the man responsible for founding and administrating Luelinks, gave what is perceived as a blessing to the invasion. I quote:
"From: LlamaGuy | Posted: 1/8/2006 0119 PM |
I was out all night partying... I got home at 5am and never knew anything happened until rkr IM'd me about all this stuff. I'm just now hearing about all this ebaumsworld crap. Usually I'm anti-invasion, but ebaumsworld is one of my few exceptions to that.
Contrary to popular belief, the reason I don't like invasion has nothing to with getting in trouble. I don't like invasions because they cause headaches and troubles for webmasters and users who usually don't deserve any of that. It's just out of respect I have for other website owners out there. The webmaster of ebaumsworld, however, is a plague on this Internet. He has no respect for anyone else, so I don't have respect for him. Therefore, I don't give a **** if you invade his website or not. The only the I ask is that you don't flood our main board while doing so, try and keep it to one topic.
As for the lag... by the time I got home there was nothing wrong, so I don't know why it was lagging. Every night at midnight my logs roll over into a nice little graph so I can look at them easily. I'll do that tomorrow once the logs for this morning are available."
With this turn, much more Luelinkers have begun to attack than before, as a cluster were afraid of the repercussions.
9.) The ebaumsworld retaliation has taken a new step, as many people DDOSing Ebaumsworld have crashed into malicious packets designed to crash any pingers. Details as they develope.
10.) The GameFAQS moderation team denounced the attacking made by Gamefaqs users, which came mainly from LUE, RI, and CE.
4:30 PM
11.) Luelinks has just gone down. Repeat, Luelinks has just gone down as of 4:20 PM EST. Whether this is a result of a coordinated mass DDOS attack by Ebaumsworld users or just a technical difficulty remains unknown, though a good portion of Luelinkers on AIM chats believe that it was on part of a retaliatory attack. Details as they develope.
4:40 PM
12.) Rumors of Ebaumsworld attacking Gamefaqs, an almost-key player (and the source from which Luelinks spun off from) run rampant on the Gamefaqs boards.
13.) According to Gamefaqs user Selucresh, "the raiders have gotten to Eric Baumans Host. This could bring down ebaums permanatly.", and "the Raiders expect to begin pinging TONIGHT!". I've not heard of this yet, but it could very well be true. These attacks and counter-attacks have been well-planned and coordinated before-hand. Anything is likely, especially with Luelinks' pool of notorious hackers and resources.
4:48 PM
14.) Selucresh's source has been confirmed.
4:55 PM
15.) LUElinks is back up, I repeat, LUElinks is back up as of 4:55 PM EST. Lag is heavy, but it is back.
Wait. As of 4:56 PM EST, Luelinks is back down. Hmm.
5:02 PM
16.) A new tactic has risen in fighting Ebaumsworld, this time not attacking it at all; instead, contacting the source of the website. Details withheld since I'd probably get modded for them.
5:13
17.) Luelinks is fluctuating between going online and going back down, presumably form server strain. Details as they develope.
18.) The IGN boards went down a while ago, perhaps from an Ebaums counterattack. They have since been restored.
19.) The YTMND forums are back up, if you didn't know already. They had been out for a few weeks. Also, if you didn't know already, the YTMND admin (I think) posted in the news about the raids. This is what he had to say:
================
"2006-01-08 1137
As many of you have noticed by the anti-ebaum sentiment, last night things seemed to reach boiling point.
I tried to stop this all when it was a snowball, but it just turned into an avalanche. I'd like to make an open statement to the community, in regards to DDoS. Don't do it. It sets a whole new precedent and will not end well, it affects a lot more than just ebaum sworld and really crosses the line.
I think there is a general distaste for ebaumsworld in the internet community and things just exploded last night. While I never supported or condoned the attacking anything, I was amazed to see so many communities come together for a vulgar display of power. I think there is something to be said for communities coming together for a common goal, even if it is over something so petty."
==================
It is unknown whether this will effect the current "avalanche" of raids in progress.
5:21 PM
20.) There have also been reports of the ebaumsworld site being breached to redirect to porn sites, adult finder sites, and the like. It has since been fixed.
7:47 PM
21.) Selucresh says:
"Raiders are now contacting the sites who advertised on eBaums and saying that they will not use thier products because they were used on eBaum. "
22.) Selucresh says:
"The Raiders have come into possesion a way to find every eBaum user and "Hit the users". This is in early development, and may not happen at all."
23.) Luelinks is back up, for good.
7:48 PM
24.) MySpace chats are currently down. Whether from a technical error or from an Ebaum counter-attack is uncertain.
7:54 PM
25.) Luelinks is again experiencing some slowdown and massive lag, probably since people are still DDOS attacking it or from LlamaGuy fixing stuff..
26.) Luelinks devised a new method of attacking Ebaums; instead of visiting the page and potentially increase Bauman's profits, they've instead contructed a program which eats bandwith only by going to the stolen YTMND item millions of times. In turn, this will waste tons of bandwith for Ebaums, and is just as if not more effective as a DDOS attack.
8:21 PM
27.) Oh noes! Raiders have discovered the addresses of Eric Bauman's relatives.
8:37 PM
28.) The following is an e-mail set by a Luelinker to Ebaums hosting company (read Update #16 for backinfo):
"Hello, I am just emailing you about how the movie "Rubber Johnny" hosted on http://www.ebaumsworld.com is a copyrighted film, copyrighted by Warp Records and is being hosted on the site without permission. I understand that copyright infringement is against your policies as a server, so I am just telling you that eBaumsworld is a massive copyright infringement in itself and this is just one example. Please inform the webmaster of this as he is making money off of something that he doesn't own and didn't work hard to complete. It took Chris Cunningham (the director) an entire year to finish Rubber Johnny, and it just isn't fair that Eric Bauman is making all this money off of it and other stolen things.
Please take this into consideration.

This well-written letter sites proof of eBaum's various acts of thievery. Many other kinds of letters for the different items stolen by Eric Bauman are expected to be sent to TechieMedia, the hosting company.
8:40 PM
29.) The eBaum's Forums are database crashed again. The Raid seemes to still be going strong.
8:48 PM
30.) T-minus 15 minutes to a new mass attack by the Raiders, according to credited info gathered by Selucresh.
