I loved this show, and it probably had a hand in shaping my young ideals. It was an edgy, political sitcom, along the All in the Family vein. The show introduced issues that were new to me (abortion, feminism, civil rights), thereby encouraging my emerging political identity.

Man, I wish they'd re-run it.

People, people, people.....

Maude was not leftist, she was liberal. And the issues covered on the show were fair to both sides.

I thought it was extremely daring, for example, that Maude decided to have an abortion. You just didn't see that anywhere on TV in those days. Both the pros and cons were discussed, and it wasn't portrayed as an easy decision.

When Maude decided to run for Senate, her husband threatened to leave her if she did. She let him leave. Seeing such a strong woman in action really impressed me, even at my young age.
