Memo to Foreign Secretary Derbez: it is high time that the Mexican govenment stopped using the border as "pressure relief" for Mexican citizens who cannot have anywhere near the standard of living in Mexico that they can have in the US.
It's time for the Mexican government to create an economic, cultural, and educational climate that will encourage Mexican citizens to want to stay and workin Mexico; in fact, the kind of climate that will attract hard-working people from all over the world TO Mexico.
The border issue is an excuse to not fix the infrastructure, and infrastructure is the problem: not US immigration policies.
Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said today the government will try to persuade President Bush not to sign a bill that would extend a 700-mile wall along the southern border.
In a news conference with reporters, Derbez strongly criticized the fence.
