Apparently, the actors who shot the short film were informed that it's a trailer for an upcoming MK game, and some of them (including Micheal Jay White) have absolutely no interest in filming a movie.

"Baraka" was totally ridiculous in this court-métrage, and ultimately, such a movie will fall victim to a bunch of one dimensional characters, and the shitty fighting choreography ever-present in Western martial art flicks. The "grit" may impress for 7 minutes, but i doubt 70 minutes of the above will maintain interest, and entertain.

The video I posted is "teh awesome" because on a shoestring budget some guy managed to produce something better than the actual MK Franchise did with two movies and a larger effects budget. Not only that, but he managed to get credible, marketable actors in it. How he did it, through favors or conjob, is unimportant to me. And if he did con them that makes it even better.

Transformers sucked. It had everything you bitched about; one dimensional characters, terrible hack plot, mind numbing endless action scenes that were so muddled you couldn't tell what was going on half the time, and awful directing. And yet they made two with another one on the way. Clearly, there is room for shitty moviemaking in Hollywood.

I've always liked Mortal Kombat - well, at least since since MK3 & MK3 Trilogy, the only decent games in the series, but the fact is the lore and backstories they have formed for the characters are dull as ditchwater. I only cared about the gameplay, not the bullshit reasons they paint for you to go and kick twn shades of snot out of another character.

Some of the more recent games have been truly dreadful. This short film also isn't that great. I have to salute the productions values, and there's clearly a director of some reasonable ability, but as a premise, this just looks like more Video Game to Movie development hell.

The original movie wasn't all that bad for what it was; popcorn fare. The second was a mess. And the games have become convoluted garbage over the years. If it were a case of a genuine movie, a non-supernatural route would probably be more interesting than the "two worlds, one winner" theme they've always used before.
