Fire hits historic Regency flats

A severe fire has led to the evacuation of apartments in a row of Regency town houses on Hove seafront, East Sussex.


Fire, police and ambulance teams were called to 180-year-old Brunswick Terrace, on the A259 Kingsway, shortly before midday.


The blaze broke out on the top floor and East Sussex fire service said there were reports of "people trying to get other people out" before crews arrived.

The fire had been put out and the road reopened by Saturday afternoon.

No injuries

An investigation into the cause is under way, and crews remained at the scene conducting search and salvage operations in the flats affected.

Building control officers from Brighton and Hove City Council were called in, as well as victim support workers with the Red Cross.
There were no reports of anyone having been injured.

They usually give people places to stay in the short term, not sure what happens if your house burns down, but the insurance would obviously help.
