The Legendary Troll King
Went to Boston this past week for a quick three day getaway. It was pretty awesome actually. Great weather. Of course it's the filthiest fucking city in the universe still, but I haven't been there in quite a while, so I wanted to visit some of my old haunts (since I grew up there) and see what had changed.
Stayed at a nice hotel by the WTC called the Seaport. Nice high rise, clean rooms, shitty service, bad food. Good grief, do I work at the only decent fucking hotel in the Northeast?
That new bridge that connects to the Callahan Tunnel and then downtown is very cool. Usually I get vertigo when driving over bridges and have a panic attack, but this one was different. Still couldn't drive over the Mystic River Bridge though.
Went to the Aquarium on Sunday. Havent been there in years, and its quite different. The jelly exhibit is awesome, and as soon as I unpack my digi, I'll try to upload some pics. The great thing about the Aquarium is the giant sea tank in the center of the building. There's a spiral staircase you slowly walk up, and they have this artificial current that all the fish school and swim against so it's very cool, you get to see them in "RL" sort of. Actually it's very sad, because these fish will never be free again once they've been rescued, and it brings up the whole poisoning of the sea thing for me.
Speaking of seafood, when in Boston, fuck the restaurants, buy your seafood at the Marketplace Foodcourt, or some other little shack or shanty type affair. The restauants have lowered the quality and upped the price. I had shrimp and lobster for about 16 dollars at a foodcourt in the Marketplace, and it was excellent. The lobster I had at the hotel I dont even want to tell you how bad it was.
Then we went to Copley, because shopping was to be had. Copley Plaza is really fun. Coming out of the T to Copley Plaza all of a sudden, there was the oldest of my early haunts, the Boston Public Library. I had forgotten about that, perhaps one of the finest smaller city libraries in existence.
Tuesday we went to the Museum of Science, and did the tour and a planetarium show along with one of those 3d Imax movies. I had never seen one before. I was more interested in the projection technology, which was also on display as an exhibit than the actual film, which was some Star Wars hype bullshit. Wookie growling in your face and Luke waving his sabre around, while the "whooshes" supposedly make you duck.
Anyone else have a vacation trip during school recess?
