I recall recently when I was staying with my mom, we went out shopping and there was a cart situation she wanted to help with. My mom is 80 and people should be helping her! (I do, others do) but I told my mom, "You don't have to be responsible for that person's cart or child" or whatever was going on.
And it was like a light bulb appeared above her head and she was relieved of the "duty" to get involved.
