Actor James Avery has died at the age of 65, announced his "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" costar Alfonso Ribeiro via Twitter.

An earlier report from TMZ said Avery died in a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday night after complications arising from surgery for an unspecified illness.

"I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly," said Ribeiro, who played preppy son Carlton on the series.

Aww, that's sad.
