Asus Probe reports a steady 30 C at idle and 33 at load, load being Halo PC at 1280x1024, 30fps. I didn't see the framerate drop once, not even in heavy combat. It was wierd to see an old favorite at such high res... I guess I can start jumping up and down with glee now.

I'll see how F.E.A.R. and Doom 3 do in a couple days when I have a sec. DVD playback really suprised me, PowerDVD scales the resolutions wonderfully, DVDs look crystal clear with no artifacts onscreen, none whatsoever. I thought that blurring effect in animated stuff what just the nature of DVD, not my slow ass systems.

The Mac and the PC are talking well, for whatever reason XP sees the Mac much easier (once I joined by workgroup). OMG. OMFG. I'm jumping up and down in my mind right now.
 
I'll say... after the money I made selling on eBay I really only spent about $200.00US... super deal on a badass piece of machine.

Very nice, very nice. Given the temps you're running at, you can probably easily overclock the shit out of that processor once it's burned in, even with the stock heatsink and fan. If you want to, that is. I'd imagine it's such an improvement over your previous machine you may not need to.

You'll probably want to update that hard drive eventually with a larger capacity SATA drive or two. That'll also speed things up considerably, although I'm sure you have a massive storage drive or two on your network somewhere.

200 bucks? Not bad at all. AMD makes great kickass processors these days for cheeeap. I've been pretty impressed with them for the last 3 years or so. Much better than Intel overall, I'd say.
 
Yeah, SATA drives are next on the purchase list. I'll probably do two 250GB in a nice RAID0 array, that'll be nice for me boot time.

Overclocking will go down after burn-in, although I bet you're right about not needing to for a while. We shall see.
 
SATA drive dramatically reduced boot times from about a minute twenty to fourty five seconds. Plus there's breathing room at 160GB (vs. 30).

Half-Life 2 @ 1600x1200 with full detail runs at around 40fps. Never in my life have I had such a machine.

Something that looks even better, Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivian. Max that shit out and have fun. It looks so good it's disturbing.
 
I know, right? I was going to spend money on an Xbox 360... but it looks as though most of the good games for the 360 will be PC ports (either that or the best 360 games will be out on PC) so fuck that madness. I'm just going to go crazy with what I've got.

I might need your advice/counsel. I tried connecting my Mac and my Dell via my cable router using workgroups, but I was ultimately too Pakled to pull it off.
 
One day, I dream of being able to afford a computer that lets me play Oblivion at more than .5 FPS.

So I added two more 160GB drives in a RAID0 to run games off of, I tried raiding the boot volume but I had too many errors... apparently the NVidia raid drivers are kinda crap. That's cool, tho.
