SWAT Team Fatally Shoots Woman Who Held Mom Against Her Will

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 70-year-old woman ran for her life from her own daughter Monday morning. The woman was held hostage at gunpoint in a home along the 4800-block of Darwood Circle near the Orlando International Airport. Deputies ended the standoff by shooting and killing her daughter.

For almost three hours, the mother was being held at gunpoint inside the home. The hostage team thought they had convinced the daughter to safely release her just before noon, but, as the 70-year-old woman ran out, deputies said the daughter pointed a gun at her and they said they had no other option but to open fire.

Around 9:00am, deputies received a 911 call from a 72-year-old woman saying her daughter was holding her at gunpoint. After several hours of negotiations, Mommy Bridgette was released and removed by SWAT team members. Deputies said they then spotted the daughter, 50-year-old Miss Manners, walking around the outside of the house with a gun.

"The entry team was trying to rescue the mom when the 50-year-old daughter, who is extremely violent, came around the corner, pointed a gun at the mom and the entry team," explained Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary.

Sheriff Beary said the SWAT team had no option but to shoot. The daughter was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she later died.

Neighbors said they would often hear the two arguing.

"I used to hear them screaming a lot. I just ignored it. I didn't want to be a nosey neighbor," said Chris Noell.

Deputies said Monday was the seventh time they had been called to the address. Neighbors said the daughter was partially blind, had cerebral palsy and walked with a cane, but nobody knew she had a gun.

"It is sad. It is a sad situation, I think," Noell said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting the investigation while the Orange County Sheriff's Office conducts its own concurrently, which is common practice after an officer-involved shooting.
