Let's fuck some shit up
Italy scored a goal!!!
Let me reiterate. Grosso, a defender, who had been in since the beginning of the game, who played all 118 (really 123) minutes of the game scored the first goal. That means, he played for almost two hours and came up to score a goal with two minutes left. What a player!
The look on Lehmann's face after Del Piero scored the second goal was priceless. He just looked over his shoulder at the ball hitting the net, then looked forward again, throwing his arms out and giving an expression that seemed to say, "not again..." I laughed very hard.
Though, I will have to give it to the Germans. They didn't make any mistake to allow that goal. They tried very hard. Then, at the end, they just didn't want it enough. They were depending on the PK's. That was their only mistake. They just tried to hold on, instead of doing what Italy did and score a goal.
Also, I have to say that was the best Ref that I've seen this entire world cup. He just sat back and let the players do their jobs. He handed out three yellow cards that were all totally fair.
Here's my summary:
The first half was a traditional game with both teams owning-up to their reputations. They both tried to take dives to get fouls, but to no avail. The second half was a total battle. Both sides stopped taking dives and started to play riskier football. They realized that the ref wasn't going to call stupid shit so, they went all at it. The OT was just two tired teams sharing the possession 50/50. That is, until Grosso made an amazing goal in the 119th minute. Then, Del Piero punched-out another goal in the 121st minute (with only 30 seconds left) to secure Italy's victory.
Nobody can say that Italy stole this game. Also, it can never be said that both teams didn't give it everything they had.
Great match! Or, as the Italians would say, "che bella partita!!"
Final score Italy:2, Germany:0
