I noticed just how shitty a doctor Dr McCoy is in this episode. I MEAN REALLY! First he doesn't want to experiment on the blobby things, then he blinds Spock. DOES HE HAVE TO OBJECT TO EVERYTHING?
Also, clearly all his tools are just machined little pieces of metal, and he waves them over people making noises with his mouth like Officer Jones from Police Academy. Malpractice - hello???
Those things drive people mad so they can't co-ordinate or think for themselves, right? But at the beginning of the episode the Enterprise sees a ship flying into the sun because the people are so determined to stop being controlled?
Yeah, the guy said something about being free right before his ship went into the sun. The blobby things controlled people using pain, so the people infected could actually do what they wanted but if they didn't obey, the pain was excruciating and drove them mad.
I like how Spock made a full recovery after being blinded by Dr McCoy.. it only took a couple hours and it was because he had some kind of special eyelid. Looks like that would have kept him from going blind in the first place.
