Been there. Attended college at SUNY Potsdam which is only about 100 miles from the Canadian border. Even went to Club Supersex and La Ronde. Back in the good old days before you needed a passport to cross into Canada. Back when they just asked for your birth date, birthplace and purpose for your visit.

Yeah baby steps. I(and my brother too) did get some food stamps now so I'm not totally mooching off the folks now while I look for work. Actually, Idk that might be a bit of a baby step backwards.

Yeah applying for Medicaid this week. Was already denied public assistance/welfare because of my newish car(2008 Toyota Yaris). Also stepping up job search efforts as Mom applies the pressure and the guilt(parents want to move into senior apartments).
(And lol yeah lazy bastard is more accurate. I'm in this mess because I overspent, bought fast food every day instead of cooking, cleaned my apartment and dishes like every six months, and now that I'm here at my parents house I've basically mooched off them the kast 6 months doing not much more than occaisonally wash dishes and help with dinner)

I'm in the same basic boat, and I've had the same job for 18 years. Solid job with good bennies, but the student loans and a couple of fucked up relationships later, my budget has no "budge" in it. I'm scraping pennies at the end of every week.
Luckily, I found a sweet side gig writing online. Some old broad down in NYC pays me to go online and nag her shiftless son into getting a job. Can you believe what some people will pay for?

Longest job I had was working at a Price Chopper Supermarket for 8 years. Stupidly gave up that job at age 29 because of pride. I was promoted the last 2 years I worked there to full time cashier and because I was a pushover they mostly had me doing store cleaning, cart collecting and grocery bagging. This made me angry alot so I ended up making mischief and getting fired. Stupid move considering I was making almost $13/hr at the time. If I had stayed I'm sure I'd be making $20+/hr or maybe even salaried at 40-50,000 a year. Unemployed the next 5 years, got a Tax and Finance job in '07, lost that within 6 months(tax collection not my forte), landed a crappy overnight job at Dunkin' Donuts that lasted 3 weeks, got a crappy telemarketing job in late '07 that lasted 2.5 years when I quit before I was fired for poor attendance, found out place closed down shortly after I left so I could have gotten unemployment if I had stuck it out.
Anyhoo...now it looks like I'll be trying to get back to working in retail at a supermarket thats opening a new store in Latham(and hoping experience counts for something and I start out at more than minimum wage). I have to still apply online and open house interviews are this Tuesday followed by a job fair the next day. Wish me luck.
