It's more and more obvious with every viewing that Jake Lloyd was the biggest problem with the movie. It's amazing that NOBODY just whispered to George "you know, that kid sucks!" at some point during the production.

Well, that and the part where Jar-Jar smears "poodoo" on his face and says "MESSA BLACK AND WHITE MINSTREL NOW!" are the main problems.
 
I'm just waiting for the special edition where Jake is completely replaced by a CGI young Anakin, voiced my Mark Hamill.
 
In the CGI version they will hopefully remove the line "I'll try spinning, thats a good trick"

One of the other kids that they were considering for Anakin was such a total "I'M A CHILD ACTOR LOOK AT ME SMILE AREN'T I ADORABLE WHERE'S MY VENTI LATTE MOMMY???" fucks that it makes Jake Lloyd look like an up-and-coming young star.
 
There was a rumour (probably made up by Lucas haters) that they turned down the boy from the Sixth Sense for the role (whatever happened to that little fucker anyway?)
 
Yeah, but if Lucas hadnt de-aged Anakin at the last moment, they could have gone with Haley James Osmet, or the kid out of 6th sence if I have horribly mangled his name.
 
Was he too old to play little Ani? I can never remember children's ages.

Ani should have been a bit older, SAY the same age as Padme and his RAGING HORMONES should have been an obstacle to overcome just like Sebulba. But I suppose that wouldn't have been as "cute".

Nearly there. Haley Joel Osment. His 15 year old kid sister Emily is also an actress in Kiddy movies (and on Facebook), though he's 19 and a drunk driver, now.

He would have been 10 at the time TPM shot. Only a year older than Jake Lloyd.
 
Apparently Anakin was going to be 12 originally, then Lucas decided a 12 year old leaving his mum wouldnt be as upsetting as a 7 year old leaving his mum.

Meaning instead of a brooding teenager who we could well imagine turning into the Anakin of episode II, we get a gee whiz 7 year old, who is so sickly sweet, the only possible way he could have turned into the episode II Anakin is because Obi Wan is the worst possible guardian for a kid since Fred and Rose West.
