I want to see the glacier!

I've posted some pics of it before, but here's a close-in view of the glacier.

That's very hard to capture with a macro lense. Macro lenses are how you get the super closeups of insects, flowers, and the like. The distant background would be extremely blurry with a macro lense, which is why most macro shots have a background very near the object of focus.

Look at the original picture and how blurry the top of the hill is just a few feet back. Also note the reddish seeds on the grasses in the picture.

This is a much better closeup. The clarity is much better and there is no blurred background.

That being said, taking a picture with the glacier as the backdrop would just show a hazy background, assuming I could get the aperature size and f-stop adjusted correctly for the lighting. (Impossible for me really)


Unfortunately I don't have any pictures that have closeups of the flowers with the glacier in the same image, take a look at this picture though. If you look closely in the foreground you can see how rocky and mossy the ground is and how very close to the ground the vegetation grows. This is due to a short growing season and very high average windspeeds. If you look closely at the types of groundcover in the closeups that follow, especially of the bluebells in the original post and the groundcover of the above post, you'll note that they are the same types of vegetation.

Remember those reddish looking seeds I mentioned? You can see a reddish hazy look in the vegetation in this photograph all over the place. The flowers are tucked away hidden from open exposure to the wind all throughout the nooks and crannies in there.

These are some kind of strange succulent plant, like a water-loving cactus almost.

They grow flowers out of them too.
