Posting your IRL info

Vote, and state your case.

And yes, you only have two voting options, because while it could certainly be argued that it's a bit of both, I want to see which side wins out.

:decision:

Well, it depends. I have personal info on the net (facebook), but it stops there.

I don't have an account on twitter, livejournal, formspring, or any other social networking sites. In fact... brb... yeah.. myspace = deleted.

Never did facebook or other "social networking" sites other than Kink oriented ones. Even there, I don't use my name. It would take some effort, but it's probably not fool-proof. My blog also had too much personal info, again if someone took a lot of time they could probably figure out who I was.

Stupid, but yeah, there is an aspect of ego that wants us "known". All I can do at this point is make things un-worth the effort it would take.

I never really cared much about personal info being available, although I do tend to self edit just a little to protect certain sensibilities. My employers are well aware of my peculiar sense of humor; I was actually called a "loose cannon" during a promotion interview by the head of HR, and another supervisor I actually hired way back in the day recently described me as "half Jesus, half Charles Manson". Can't decide which of those makes me prouder.

And good luck to any poor fucker who tries to get credit under my name, or call up my family members and tell them bad things about me. They already have way better stories about me than can be found on the internet.

It's stupid to put your personal info on the internet and then bitch about people having your personal info!

I'd lean towards brave. My RL info isn't hard to find, simply by virtue of knowing some of you in RL and by being on FB (my Myspace got deleted, though there are still vestiges of me there, like an impromptu band I was in). So, knowing trolls in RL and having RL info out there? Brave...

I don't think it takes some bravery. But usually, it's not stupid, either. Your RL info can be easily accessed in other ways anyway. Who/how is going to abuse it? The only "danger" I see in this is when you are going to flame people, so that if you REALLY piss off someone, there is a nearly to none chance that he gets his revenge by doing something that has to do with your address. Or if you're posting somewhere where you may get sued. Even then (just the first option), chances are next to none. So I think you are a coward and stupid if you don't realize this. But I don't know about TrollKingdom (and similar sites), maybe it's stupid to post your information there.

I dare you to make sense.

You might be surprised who is free to post your personal information - like your employer and other organizations you are involved with. It is amazing to see what turns up when I do a yahoo search.

Here's what you do - Go to facebook and search Riot Gear. Send me a request. I accept. Besides, you get to see me and I must warn you - I am extremely good looking.

Let's network baby!
