Question: Why do people Hang out in Graveyards?

Unluckiest Charm in the Box
I can't remember if this has been posted here before or not, but I've noticed that off and on, there are quite a few people that live in my area that will go to the graveyards, sit on tombstones, and get drunk all day. Some will even hold picnics in there. I can "sorta" see if they have dead relatives in there that they are visiting, but some of the gravesites these people "visit" are almost if not more than 100 years old!

The teenage "Goth or Punks" will go into them during the Halloween season, burn candles and sing wierd chants or whatever, but other people seem to go there and any given time of the year..just to be there!

Strange to say the least!

I don't know.

I know when I was a kid I went with the old people that babysat me to their family graveyard to pull weeds, mow and in general clean up the place. That is a respectful thing to do for our relatives.

When I lived in California, I know people spent the day at Glenlawn having picnics, sightseeing, and feeding the ducks. Odd but a lot of celebrities were buried out there and the grounds were kept very nice.

I often eat lunch out by my twins grave. A shady dirt lane runs near where she was buried in a very old, quiet and hardly used cemetary. I have an Aunt and Uncle who are buried on the other side of that little dirt road just a few feet away.

People who are just sitting out there getting drunk and aren't related are just that - drunks. The location is quiet and the occupants don't complain.
