R.I.P. TWINKIES

Wow that is a lot of people. I always thought they were really popular. Over here people go nuts over them and pay relatively high prices for them (they're not manufactured here so there are a few stores that import them).

I saw a cartoon on my FB where two Mayans are talking. One asks about the calendar ending in 2012. The other says it is because there are no more Twinkies.

Apparently two bankruptcies and a wildcat labor strike was all it took.

Don't forget that the CEO got a 300% increase in compensation while upper management got 150% increase. Does wonders for the corporate finances when your company is going under.

They can sell off the trademarks and allow another company to make them. Someone will pick up those names and brand marks, they're very lucrative.

Yup. The real reason they went under has little to do with the unions, it's the fact that management couldn't come up with a profitable business plan, and ended up letting some hedge fund managers (like BAIN CAPITAL but not them) take over.

And the Bain-like hedge funders did what they do best: slashed jobs and costs and plundered all the cash from the company, leaving it to decay on the side of the road.

This is why it's a good thing Romney didn't win. The Death of the Twinkie is the cautionary tale that lets us know what would have been.
