The only thing I really dislike about Bill Maher is his stand-up. The comic timing in his monologues...way off. But he shines in any quid-pro-quo situation.
The points he makes about religion being ridiculous and dangerous and the facts he presents that piss all over Christianity and highlight it as nothing more than a massive pile of nonsense are all salient and true and corroborated by many others.
Corraborated by many others with his same point of view, and same agenda. There are compelling arguments from other people who believe the exact opposite.
Full disclosure: I am a non-practicing Catholic who generally views organized religion with skepticism bordering on general dislike. All I'm saying is that you should consider the source when forming your opinions.
Of course. My opinions on organized religion have been formed since I was a child and I've done an incredible amount if reading on the subject. I don't just watch a documentary and take that on board as "gospel"
He's hard hitting and militant in his position (but I am of the view that nothing less than that works anymore) and the documentary is not trying to convert people because there is no point. It's more for atheists or agnostics (he is actually more agnostic as opposed to hardline atheist) to step up to the plate and stop being ignored.

His speech here is pretty damn clear and hard to disagree with.
