Don't know if this makes it overseas or not, but American tv has a show called Rock Star every summer that plays a little like Pop Idol (or American Idol if you prefer) only with rocking songs instead of shitty pop music. The premise is that Band "_________" needs a lead singer, and auditions from 15 lucky hopefuls over the course of the series. Each week every hopeful sings a selected rocker; each week viewers vote, and the bottom three have to sing again the next night. The band makes the final decision and sends one packking, while the other two live on.

Last year it was INXS: I loved the show, and although I had never been much of a fan I grew to appreciate the band over the series as professionals. This year it's a new supergroup forming with Tommy Lee , Jason Newstead, and Gilby Clark (G'n'R, MC5). Band is called Supernova.

Anyway, I like the concept and the show. Anybody watching?

I like the concept too, the tommy lee band sucks ass. the punks from MotleyCrue all need to have the shit kicked out of them.
 
Yeah, it was better when it was an established band like INXS looking for a singer. Maybe next year (and every year after that, really) they could do Rock star: Van Halen...they ALWAYS need a new singer.
 
Last night they booted a guy who did Duran Duran as his song choice. Tommy Lee was astounded and kept saying "Dude. You think Duran Duran is right for US?" LOL
 
I enjoyed last year's "Rock Star," mainly because so many of the kids trying to get on with INXS were so talented. You had Mig, Jordis, and Marty, who I felt should have won.

This year...feh. There's a few who can manage to sing well enough, but they just don't have half the personality or talent that some of the others had last year.

I'm glad Marty didn't win this year, 'cause I think he can do better than INXS. Same for Jordis and Mig.
 
See I don't know, I had a couple standout favorites last year including the three you mentioned but I felt they gave it to the guy who wanted it worst, JT. That guy was right , he was there to front INXS, not just be in a rock band.

This year, I think they have talent just as deep but not in as obvious a way. That Kid Lucas rocks the house, and so does that little powerhouse punkette Dilana. If they're smart they'll take one of those two.

The thing you're noticing is that the shitty singers are way shittier than last year's. Matt and Chris needed to go, and that Sayra broad does too.
 
Now that I think about it, you're right, Donovan.

The really bad singers are really, really bad. Dave was pretty hard on Chris, which I kind of thought was unfair, but definitely true.

I keep watching because Mrs. Voltage enjoys the show.
